I have a 550 gallon tank at my place and I need to refill it. I just called around and prices ranged from $4.46 to $4.60 a gal delivered. 300 Gal Minimum.

I asked the lady at the place for $4.60 a gal. I can buy it at the local truck stop for $4.60.

What is the deal? How much tax are we supposed to be saving?

I am in the Dallas area. I was out in Olney, Texas this week and farm diesel at the local filling station was $4.20. Maybe I need a portable diesel tank...

They must be adding on a big delivery charge it sounds like. My nearest farm diesel dealer is at 4.65 right now. What ticks me off is the gas station where I buy diesel for my truck is also 4.65. That farm diesel places price is if I pick it up.

It's not worth the trip there to get it. Unless you have an honest dealer and one that sells a LOT of fuel then you aren't going to save money.

Up here iN Oklahoma I usually save about 20 to 25 cents a gallon delivered to my house 300 gallon min. Sometimes the prices are out of wack though. I have a 100 gallon tank on my flatbed p/u that I use to transfer fuel to my dozer's and when I don't want to run a tractor back to the house to fill it. If prices are out or I don't want to mess with them there is a station that has off road fuel and I fill it there to get by. The downside to the bed tank is that there is over $400 sitting back there that is a prime target for thieves. I keep the fill and the nozzle padlocked.

Wow.

Over here in the UK, it is costing us the equivelent of $6.98 for a gallon of off road tax free diesel, or $11.65 for road legal diesel.

Cost the equivelent of $460 to fill up the JD 6820 I was drivign the other day, would have cost $769 if I had filled it up at a roadside petrol station.

Last year, red off road diesel was $2.50 a gallon (equivelent again, I work in metric!)

That is a much bigger jump in fuel prices than we have had. It's killing many of us so I don't know how you are surviving. Unless you are rich and farm for fun. I doubt that is the case though.

I made some calls today and found a distributer that will provide the tank for free if I only have them service it and now we are trying to scrounge almost 5000 dollars for the first fill up. Well, 4,290 dollars for 500 gallons. I couldn't believe the price he told me.

*I got 60 gallon delivered the other day.
Go about it right and there is no min delivery or the min delivery requirement is waved in most cases.
1*Is this off road at both places?
2*Sounds fishy.
3*The full amount of the federal and state on road taxes.
4*At the price of gas this could be a no win deal.
I have a spare drum but would just use it in case I happen to run out before the delivery man shows up.

Yep, its expensive. Its not too bad for us though because we only use a relatively small amount of diesel and the contractor I work for just passes it on to the customers, which of course there not happy about.

Still, it is making us think about efficiency, and minimizing the amount of traveling around we do.

I have also been thinking about turning the engine off more, but big starter motors aren't cheap, and I'm not sure how good it is for the engine, and how much fuel it would actually save. And, I like my climate control :)

But, even at nearly $500 in fuel alone to take a 150HP tractor out of the barn for a day, theres no shortage of work for us (All night bale wrapping anyone?) :)

I've been out in the sun too long fixing my NEW tractor again. Sorry about that.
I meant 2145.00.

Trying to do math in your head when your brain has been cooking in this west Texas sun all day is pretty stupid.

If you have a large mounted tank in your truck, you can fill up right now across the border in Mexico and save about $2. per gallon. The fuel is refined at Shell in Deerpark Tx and the Mexican gov't brings it in and subsidizes it to lower the impact to the locals. Its about the only way I know of right now to get something out of their gov't. Be careful, most of the border towns are under siege by the drug cartels. Go at your own risk.

According to the meters on the tanks, I have about 15 gallons left in my 300 gallon tank and about 65 gallons left in my 500 gallon tank. You guys are making me dread calling for prices this week. :(

When I last filled early this year it cost me around $3.50 or so a gallon for #2 off road. I complained like crazy about that price! It seems like I recall #2 off road being between $.60 and $.89 a gallon for quite a while. Funny, it really doesn't seem all that long ago...
