With seeing the condition, and obvious "care" this 420 has had, then I'm going with the $2k as top dollar. Will take at least another $3k to get it looking and likely "running good" again so it has the $5-6k value added back.

The bluish color is a sure sign that non-John Deere paint has been used in its past.
It had the blueish tint when we bought it 25-30 years ago. We have always housed it, kept the oil changed and checked, kept the PS and Hyd topped off. Starts the first time over and runs well, so we haven't messed with the ignition or charging system. It has $1K worth of rubber and the rears are loaded. We mowed our 3 acres of law weekly, May thru Nov. It's 67 years old!
