so I'm coming home from lunch yesterday and a dually with short bed passes me.. white in color, has fender flair that are not molded inbut add on style. is the extended cab, not crew cab.

looked to be a 99-2006 model.. i was behind him and saw the f250 logo on the tailgate. mind told me.. ahh.. he damaged his tail gate and got a white one from a 250 at the salvage yard. when i got beside him though, his front panel emblem also was f250 psd...

um??

what was i looking at? add on kit for dual wheels and aftermarket fender flairs?

or?

couldn't see rear end good enough to know if it was the big 10.25" rear end and couldn't see the shap well enough to id the rear end from the axle code chart.

??? what did i see? ???

in the past i have seen a chevy s10 converted to a dually.. I have also seen a half ton pickup converted to a 3/4 ton rear end, springs and running gear... but not a 3/4 to 1 ton... opinions?

other than rear end and body lift, what all is different from a 250 to 350 of similar model years.. ie.. would a simple rear end swap with running gear work, then add on the fenders.. or can you simply change out the hubs and add the duals? or???

Sounds like the guy converted a F-250 to a dually. I seem to recall an old boss of mine did something similar to an old farm truck he had.

I call my F-250 a F-250-1/2 as the limited slip rear end and towing package I ordered increased the tire size from the factory. For the 1999 model year, the nearest I can the only real difference between a F-250 SRW and a F-350 SRW are the rear springs.

Ford never made a dually F-250. Like you I have seen dually Ranger, Vans, Suburban, ect so anything is possible.

It's very simple to do. You can order a complete kit off the web. I know only because I did it with a '94 chevy 2500. I bought a kit that included 6 wheels, spacers for the front and spacers for the rear. You just have to understand that it does not increase your legal weight limits. In my case the bed was smashed pretty bad and I wanted a flat bed. Now I also think a flat bed over a set of dually's looks much nicer than a flatbed on a srw truck. The biggest thing I noticed was how much more stable the truck felt, I had never had dually before.

A friend of mine put 250 emblems on a 350 because of a work truck covenant in his neighborhood.

Yupp, conversion. Way more stable for towing, and look cool too. :).

Converting my 1500 CC would look cool. :)

I have seen F250 flatbeds with duals, pulled over in the scalehouse at Forsyth, Ga. and talked to the owner for several minutes. Never knew it was out of place to have a 250 with duals (strange, just not out of place) so I didn't question him about it. He was in there because his F250 GVW/GCVW wasn't changed when he added the duals like he thought it should be, and our fine weighmaster decided that shutting him down would be the thing to do until he got his load under F250 limits. I offered to take some of his load, but we didn't have anyway to transfer it to my truck, so it was a mute point.
I get mad ever time I think about that stop at that scalehouse, because the scale operator was one of those people that is right, no matter what the facts say.(another story for another day) He retired to become a pain in somebody else's rear, Thank God!!!

A 350 is considered a work truck but a 250 is not? haha, reason #8,233 not to live in one of those neighborhoods..

Actually Bill, I think it's reason #8,234 - number 8,233 is the one that says you can't cut your grass on the second Tuesday of the month after 3pm on a full moon... Or maybe that was number 8,235??? ;)

Did you consider that he might have just put f-250 badges on a f-350?

Don't get me started there...I built a house for my MIL in one of those communities when my FIL passed away. I should have known there would be problems when I poured the 9' walls for the basement and the neighbor complained it would disrupt his sump pump...that guy had no lawn this year or last, seems almost like someone used a commercial weed killer on it.

Did you spray it for him?????

Neighbors like that are always a challenge. I have had a couple over the years. If you live in one of those types of neighborhoods, they also probably require you to have green grass cut to a max height of so many inches. Might be good to check into that in case he gives you more problems, then at least you can tell him you let him slide on the grass, why can't he let you slide on whatever it is this time. To people that want to meddle in your business, my experience has been that until I catch them doing something wrong, they just keep on taking an inch at a time till they get their hands caught in the cookie jar.

Good neighbors are a blessing!!!

I have heard that if you freeze a nice high strength roundup mixture in ice cube trays and throw them on someone's lawn, it leaves these odd brown spots...

The friend has since moved because of all the BS. Glad to not live in a community. I'm way too red. I'd be kicked out!

They considered a one ton and over work vehicles. Loophole

GOOD PROJECT idea. Thank you for bringing a smile to my day. Around here you will see a one ton axle under the back end of a F-250,but most guys still run the 250 rims on the front because of the cost of spacers.

In the Vancouver area, some disposal sites charge commercial (higher) rates for trucks over 3/4 ton, and yes, some of the attendants are that easily duped.

my MIL lives in a lil golf community on the oast. I sometimes run over to take her to lunch, etc.. or change a light bulb.. etc.. I usually go there in my f450, when I go thru the guard shack, they always give me a 'vender' parking pass, not a 'visitor' parking pass like the rest of the traffic going in.. :)
