Spreader EZEE FLOW SPREADER COLOR

Hello everybody. I'm new to the website but I have spent many hours reading forums on various equipment. I've been getting into the implement buying/fixing to help support my hobby of food plots and dove fields for wildlife management. I recenty bought an old EZEE FLOW 100 B Drop Spreader and have been restoring it. I'm to the point where I'm ready to paint. So what is the closest color available today to match the original color? I know it was a shade of red originally. I have attached a picture in the as purchased condition. If anyone has an old manual or spreader setting chart, that would be appreciated too.

Allis Chalmers orange would be close, however, how are going to get that nice lettering back on there. If it was mine, I dont know if I would paint or not?--Ken Sweet

Thanks for the color update. With regards to the lettering, I made a template out of plexiglass to reestablish the lettering. It won't be perfect but it should be pretty close. By the way, I've spent a lot of time recently checking out your website for bottom plows. How's your current inventory? Any Ford 101's, or MF models available in decent condition? Probably looking at a 3-14 max. I think a 3-16 would be pushing it for a 50 HP tractor. I'm new to the moldboard plowing arena so any advice is appreciated.

I have owned several EZ flows and I always thought the lettering was cool. We are out of 3 bottoms right now. We have another sale to go to in June. If I come up with a 101 or MF, I will let you know. Ken Sweet

Before you paint it you can talk to a vinyl decal shop and have them look it over and make a reproduction. A new decal would look great on it and you can make some extras to trade to Ken for a plow

That looks like a 10 footer in the picture. We had a 8 ft on the farm when I was a kid and we sowed many acres of grass, mixed with the ferterlizer with that machine. Ken Sweet

I bought two of those 10 foot EZ Flow spreaders this spring. I just had to air up the tires on one of em.....and then i used it to put down 14 tons of ag-lime for my food plots. Really worked slick....but still is a little wide to access all my land.

So....I am cutting the other one down to a six footer to use on my trails and around the trees, ect. I got it apart..and its nota project for everyone....but it will be nice when its done. I will put together a set of photos when I get it done. Another guy on the QDMA website sent me some good ideas on how to cut one down in size.....as he had done on a similar New Idea spreader.

I used my Kawa 400 Prairie to pull the lime spreader. It grunted a bit....but got 'er done nicely. These sure are an easier way to put down lime than doing it by hand.......never again!!! :thumbsup:

An eight footer would have probably suited me better for the same reasons but you take what you can get. I hope to use it for the same purpose as well as fertilizing and some seeding as Ken mentioned above. Nice to know you were successful with spreading Ag Lime. I'm originally from Ohio but live in South Carolina now. Finding implements can be a little difficult. A lot of the land that was originally farmed is now made up of pine plantations.

The Amish have also found another use for them. They spread dry chicken manure with them. You can't find one around here anymore, they have bought them all up. Ken Sweet

Yep....if I could find an 8 footer....I would buy it in a heartbeat. This would solve my issues with being too wide for use in the woods. Even my 10 footer isnt too bad....as I have widened out a few spots in order to get this and my cultipacker into some areas.

But for small trail use (I want good clover on my trials....which takes high ph) the ten footers are a bit big. I found mine via a wtb on craigslist. The most popular size around here is the ten'ers from what I found......and I'm not too sure there are many left that have not been scrapped or rusted out. Lots of these were used for fertilizer around here....and if you didnt clean em up good.....well . I paid $125 for the best spreader and $75 for the one I am "re-sizing".

Some companies are offering new 6 foot drop spreaders again....but these machines cost $2000 and more. That is just too much for me. I'm kinda....errrrr.....frugal.

Ken.....after looking at numerous pictures of these EZ Flow spreaders......I am convinced that they made LOTS of slight model changes over the years. So many have differing draw bars and beaters in them, etc etc. I think they must have made these since about the thirites or so. Do you know what years these were produced?

The one my Dad bought was in the mid fifties. I am pretty sure they go back a little father than that. Ken Sweet

There are quite a few 5' EZ flows around here that were used in the vineyards. Not worth much anymore since everyone went to bigger and faster options. I have one and have never used it. It was in the weeds on one of the parcels we bought and I fixed it up but never have needed it. I use a lime spreader that holds 4 ton and spreads 40' that is only 5' wide and that is a lot faster then messing with the EZ flow

Robert.....I would buy a truckload of those 5 footers if I could....and people here would stand in line to buy 'em (for a fair price). I know the co-op has the chain unloading models with the spinner plate....but they are too big to take into the forested food plots here....and those 5 footers would be perfect...and you can pull em with a 4 wheeler. The trick to growing stuff in our sandy, piney, woods is to get the ph in the soil improved via ag-lime applications every few years.

Hmmmm.....methinks we may have too many fingers in the proverbial pie. I believe we are gonna have to cut out the middle man....lest our venture goes the way of our government. :laughing:

Still....if you could find some of those 5'ers at a fair price.....I believe you could sell em for about 5 to 6 hundred a pop....there arnt many other affordable choices for food ploters like me.....and if you ever have spread a few tons of lime by hand....that price would be a bargain.

Well I will let the one I have go and will try to locate a couple more. I just saw one but can't recall where. The only trouble part I see is transporting them. Shipping is going to be a killer.

How do you measure these spreaders? Is an eight footer the width of the hopper or the wheelbase?
