I have macular degeration and have a hard time seeing the puddle while arc welding. Is there a safe way to weld with site problems or should I stop welding. Love small projects on the farm but don't want to go completely blind. Advise needed

Hopefully you are seeing a doctor and taking meds to help. Do you have wet or dry MD? Do you have 'floaters' or 'bright spots'?

I have dry MD and have seen doctors. Taking Presser vision vitamins to slow the process. Doc says come back if goes wet. Not much can be done for MD but hate to give up welding. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

many welders i know use cheater lenses check with the local welding supply house to find out where to get them but in your case i would see a eye doctor to find out if its even safe for you to weld vision once lost can't be replaced.

Have you looked at any camera systems for welding? Some vocational schools and union training schools use them, you might get lucky and find a place close by where you could try it out. Here's one company that makes them, there's probably more if you dig into it. I've always thought it shouldn't be that hard to take an action camera like a GoPro and connect it to a small display screen in a helmet. It would also allow you to sit in a comfortable position and not have to be a contortionist to see the puddle.
