I think it was about 10 days ago the world was warned to be careful using Microsoft Explorer and they didn't have a "fix" for the problem. Has anyone heard it the problem was addressed in this weeks up-date? The wife likes using Explorer but hasn't since then and is missing it.

As long as you have the current updates, it should be fine.

I read that the problem is actually from the use of Flash Player and that uninstalling Flash Player removes the threat. I've done it and all you will miss is some video pop-ups etc.

There is a fix scheduled and Windows Update will also want to load IE 11. IE 11 doesn't work very well for me, especially as an EBayer and with my security camera software, and even with some TBN functions. So, I'm living without Flash Player on all out laptops..

Fix is in for all versions of IE. Even for XP.
BUT, your wife needs to change.... since she stopped using, what is she using now?

Explorer safe to use?
Was it ever...?...not really IMO...

While on the topic of browsers...I suggest everyone (even if temporarily) install Firefox and two "plug-ins / Add-ons"... they are "No Script" and "Do not track me"...

...set the former to ask permission for all scripts (allow the ones that are obviously OK) and set the latter to show the tracking scripts blocked when you close the last browser window...

Then go visit your favorite web sites/pages...including this one...you will be in for a surprise...! (heaven fobid you visit a site like facebook etc)...[nervous] [/nervous]

I use chrome here on my laptop, but at work at use Firefox. Chrome doesn't work for all websites and Firefox doesn't either.

Chrome and Firefox work with all websites that are compliant with Internet standards. Very few older websites and applications are stuck with older Explorer only technology. That will change quickly over time. Have your wife watch a quick YouTube tutorial on Chrome. She'll never go back.

She doesn't like the way Chrome saves and alphabetizes her favorites. But she does like having some of her most used sites on the front page when we open google. I only have two, here and craigs list. she has taken the other 6 squares.

Just use Chrome. Best browser there is. Google.com/Chrome

Yeah right...! the "best" browser to allow google to track your every move...!

IMO...it's the worst browser EVER.... look for modifications that have everything to do with google removed...

BTW...google is not your friend...!

So which is the worse of two evils. MSIE or Google? One is dedicated to provide navigation on the net with compatibility. The other has the same basic mission but also it a data magnet on your every move that is used against you with solicitation on every level of communication. If you hate MSIE so much. Just change your OS and poof. problem solved. There will always be a dark side on the net **** bent to causing trouble, and they usually take the easiest path to do so.

Or, choose Firefox and enjoy the most configurable browser out there... :stirthepot:

I use Firefox because it shows bookmarks in a bar on the left, and can be organized however you want, which is very handy. Also it has the no-script extension, and adblock-plus, and the do not track feature. Websites load and work much faster without scripts and ads. I use Chrome for websites that dont work well with Firefox.
