Sorry if I get kind of long but here goes. I have been having problems for a while with weak power steering asist and slow deck lift at low idle. It wasn't a huge deal because it went away at about half idle. While mowing one day the blades quit turning under load. Pto would engage and turn until any load was put on then would just quit. When this happened the ps and deck lift started working like new. After talking to an engineer at jdhw I concluded the charge pump was bad and the pressure had dropped to the point that the valving had restricted flow to the pto clutch. I changed pump but pto continued to act up. I thought the low pressure had over time burnt the pto clutch. I found a transaxle that had been changed due to sluggish operation complaints by it's wealthy owner in cold conditions. I experienced this years ago in mine but corrected it by running hygard low viscosity oil. Thought I'd gotten lucky. I put my axles on new transaxle because the new rearend was off an all wheel steer model. threw it in and everything seemed pretty good. When I mowed with it though the motor was being drug down with pto on. Ps was slow too. Talked to some of the old 400 series line mechanics and bled the system through the ps. Still not right. Any ideas?
