Not referring to your post Bird, but I should add that I didn't want to offend anyone, that system does have some good points, notifying aid units when your air bag goes off for instance, but some of the ads showing the nitwits lost or with a flat tire "and the ground was covered with snakes!..." Yeah, call some poor tow truck operator to get the snakes! Drive over them, they'll cushion your rims!

I don't want to get on a soapbox here but I see goofs all the time weaving or oblivious on their cell phones, when I hear about getting email in your car or having internet access in your car I cringe. Or staring at a navigation system because they're...we'll I'll not say.

I'll probably need a "navigation system" the day I need a permanent drool bib.

Speaking of navigation systems, I've heard some of the dozer operators use them to follow routes in the wild. I've always been amazed when I'm on a forest service road that the road was somehow put where it was. Looking at an "unroaded" area I can't fathom the smarts it takes to decide where to drive the dozer!

And is that on-star sytem always sending out pulses? Would be a nice way to figure when someone was gone so you could rob them, or to track their travels.

Oh that's right, that information is not released...like the social security records that were available on the internet for awhile, or all the "secure" sites that have been proven to be not...

del, I'm inclined to agree with you. Last week I filled out a survey for J.D. Powers on what electronic features I'd want on a new vehicle, what I'd be willing to pay for them, etc. Some of it's getting pretty far out. Maybe someday I'll change my mind, but I just really can't see a need for TV, internet service, e-mail, etc. in a car. I think cell phones are great (I've actually used one twice - once in the grocery store and once in the truck - parked), and my wife carries it everywhere, but never uses it while driving. The hands free phone part with good speakers is the only thing I'd really care for about my daughter's system (I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids).

Nothing better than a car that will talk to you if your bored or getting tired while driving. YOUR FALLING ASLEEP or YOU HAAVE JUST PUT ME IN A DITCH. Some of the gps systems will scare the heck out of you YOU HAVE TO CHANGE LANES LEFT TURN IN 500 FEET---YOU HAVE MISSED YOUR TURN.

Now for usefulness in the woods while cutting just plug in the boundries and then you can be pretty sure that your not cutting on someone elses property---just have to double check your numbers because the gps is only as smart as the user thats the scary part.

What gets me is to see someone driving down the road with a cell phone in their ear and a pad on the steering wheel. Or a woman painting her nails or putting on makeup going down the road---or a silver traveltrailer./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

De,
Great idea about the voice warning tiltmeter. I have the
beeper model now. I can add a second switch to it. First
one sets beeper off at 20 degrees, second one comes on at
25 degrees (after tractor has rolled) and says
TOLD YOU SO!!!!! Rick

Hey, I like that, Rick!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Everyone needs a mechanical voice, just after he screws up, to say, "I told you so", just in case the wife isn't around to do it./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

PaulB, I know there's been a lot of discussion and proposed laws to prohibit the use of cell phones while a vehicle is in motion. So far as I know the only ones actually passed are a few city ordinances, but I may be wrong. And if they do pass such laws, I'm wondering whether the hands free phones will be exempted. I think I could talk on a cell phone while driving, but darned if I'd feel safe looking at one to dial a number. Of course, I'd much prefer to just stop while talking on the phone. I still remember how hard it was to drive high speed pursuits and talk on the two-way radio at the same time with a hand held microphone.

Bird, I too remember those high speed pursuits, and trying to use a hand mike at the same time. Interesting/frustrating at the best, add to that the addrenaline rush that accompanies such times, and it made it much harder to sound coherrant to the dispatcher.

Re: URL for R&B

Muhammad, I will remember to mention the code. You need more "guest" vendors on here. The guy was very impressive with his desire to make things right and provide a good product. I had wanted to order one since Bird brought it up several weeks ago but I was waffling about whether I wanted somebody I don't know to have my credit card number. After reading his posts he seems to be a legitimate businessman concerned with doing a good job.

Some people just can't handly do one thing at once! They shouldn't try to talk on a cell phone and drive.

We have either passed a law or about to pass a law forbididng talking on the phone while driving. I think it is a great idea. I have a 17 year old daughter and when she started driving, her mother bought her a cell phone so she could call if her car broke down or had any problems. The first month the bill was $214, I took it away. Decided she was more at risk talking on the phone than stranded on the highway. Her AND her mother still think I am a major jerk for depriving her.

How about a laser system that would read the approaching slope and depending on the COG, weight and type of tractor and attachments, wheel ballast, operator weight, etc. advise the operator of the risk ahead and then provide an alternate route?

It should be no problem at all to design a tractor with those features. Of course the price might rival that of a Boeing 747./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Hi Guys,
Brenda here with R&B. "the B in R&B. Just a quick note
to update you on the progress of the #25 model. Should have all parts by Thursday and will assemble them Friday if
parts are on time. Brenda

Don't know if you're aware of it but you can get a cell phone with no activation and it can still be used to dial 911. ie Still good for real emergencies yet she can't call to the tune of $214 a month!! It's probably an FCC reg so I bet it works throughout the country. Look into it.father still

Studies show that 'hands free' car phones aren't any safer. Apparently the problem isn't so much with occupying the hands as with occupying the brain!

/ experiences with my tiltmeter #58
I see a bunch of them every morning that seem to have no brain to occupy! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Seriously, some people just can't do but one thing at a time or think about more than one thing at a time. Fortunately most can, but watch out for the guy who is reading a magazine and driving on a sample data system (looks up once in a while).

You ought to drive in Sunny SoCal! I've seen them putting makeup on while talking on a cel-phone, reading newspapers, letters, working on laptops, reading business papers, just about anything you can imagine. Always gets me to fume! People are nuts! Seems like living is more important than doing any of the above while driving.
