IMO it looks to be for a smaller tractor than what you have. This pic. should be the same as what you should have. Did you get my PM.? You good with That ;).

I wrote you back Carey...Thanks...I agree it is for a different tractor. The cheap price got me excited. It doesn't look to have a mounting flange on it either. DUH...

Just finished cleaning and touching up the grills/white with the spray touchup paint. I went out of commission for awhile and had it since I bought the parts it needed. I touched the grn.up awhile back. Like I suggested before get the maintenance and tractor working properly then work on cleaning it up your give it alittle more TLC. :)

I had thought of re-routing the exhaust to under the tractor and have the pipe exit out from the rear of the tractor as would a car would be, although was told that the more length and bends in the pipe would cause restriction and back compression, so I opt out on that idea:cool: If I wer you I would have preferred if given a choice to had left the pipe as it were on yours, this would have kept the exhaust and sound further away from the driver,.... But now that I have a FEL I have no other options other than to leave it as it is in the upright ...;) Carey: your 2000 is looking good, you must be doing better these days .. My most recent tractor time has been using it to clear a pathway through our woods for the Halloween hayride event, then will use the tractor to pull a trailer full of Ghouls, I guess this would be another good reason not to have the exhaust coming out the back :D
wpuldn't want to Gas the ghouls

Some with FEL's have enough clearence to turn it foward 90 degrees to point down. Winston has pics he has posted on here before. But he has a different tractor and loader and did you not build yours? so that also may be a difference aftermarket ones may leave the space for the turn?

Here it is, I mow under a lot of trees and need a low profile. Has worked good for me. This is a 2002d

Deep, I had been thinking the same thing. If I turn the muffler straight down, and depending on where I cut the pipe I believe I could use a 45 instead of a 90. There would naturally be a few slight sweeping bends to get to the back. Do you remember who told you this? If restriction is a problem maybe a 2" pipe may solve the problem. Maybe one of our dealers will chime in .

ninefinger, I wouldn't think having a 45* bend would cause any restriction on a downward flow, I had been transporting my tractor one day when I stopped in to talk to an old friend who owns a muffler shop, and I brought up the reconfiguring of my tractors exhaust to the rear is when he advised of the possible holding back compression ( exhaust ) when having to bends around the QC to my loader and many other things being a routing problem,
he would have had to make 7-8 bends and use about 6 ft of 1 3/4 pipe and then find a place to put the muffler,
said something about scavenging diesel exhaust would lay in the pipe, the tractors 2 cyl. diesel engine wouldn't blow it all out the way he would have to rout the pipe, and would not be on a continuous downward flow,
he could however simply dump it down about midway of the tractor but he also said I would hear it even more when sound rebounds off the ground, Kinda like having turndowns on your cars exhaust right at the rear axle, I do know how that is:confused2: cant hear myself think:cool:

Both of the tractors that I use regularly has Vertical exhausts and doesn't bother me at all. The ym2000 and the JD5103. On my 8n Funk the exhaust is horizontal to the rear like a car and that is the only one the exhaust seems to get to me the most. Esp. if I'm moveing slow or sitting still. The 5103 that has a FEL. is the only one IMO. that has the power to even have a FEL. With the vertical stack if i'm in under tree's etc. easy Fix Just reach up and remove the Exhaust pipe and slip it back on when you clear it.

your 8n also is gas and prolly needs that much bend pipe to get the scavenging effect of the backpressure on that 6 or 8 cyl funk.

Is scavenging (Using the inertia of the exhaust gasses to pull clean air into the cylinder) relevant on these antiques? I doubt it. Seems to me the original design specified a pipe large enough to prevent back pressure at maximum rpm so re-routing the exhaust should have no effect short of that maximum rpm.
