In the past, there have been discussions on the pros and cons of downsweep exhaust systems. We decided on the downsweep exhaust due to tree branches as well as the noise. So we went to the muffler shop, and got one ninety degree and one forty-five degree with long ends, two hangers, and a weld on manifold flange. Brought the pieces home, measured and cut, welded it together (and for you old timers - before the days of Mig & Tig welders, we welded it together with an acetaline torch & steel rod. We're not good at it, but it's together. Thank heaven for a grinder and good paint!) Then I installed an oversized and Ugly muffler. I'm very pleased with no exhaust noise - though I still have the diesel rattle, but the noise level is greatly reduced. P.S. We did save the old muffler in one piece, so it could be put back on the tractor. If interested, please see attachment. Yugo

Good job, nice, clean and professional looking.

Looks like a great modification. I've been thinking about underbody exhaust too. Having the exhaust blow back in my face gets to me and sure as heck not healthy for you.

"We're not good at it"???? What are you complaining about?
Thats a nicer looking job than the factory down pipe..

Yes, very nice, you taking orders? Notice you have a filter on the suction side of your hydraulics, has that caused any problems with pump cavitation, etc?

I like your down pipe better than the factory setup. It's clean and simple.

I ordered the downswept pipe with my tractor and discovered that it wouldn't fit with the FEL in place. So, I had to have a shorter manifold pipe made at a local muffler shop.

Take a look at the attached picture.

That looks great William, if you find it missing someday, please don't come and look at my tractor. What did it cost (if you don't mind me asking)? I wonder if it would be out of the way of my FEL?

Hey, Billbill1 - I do know where you live. I made this exhaust system wide to clear the starter and hydraulic filter, so there wouldn't be any heat transfer. Probably wouldn't work with the FEL. And for the price - approximately $70, includes the $29.95 ugly muffler. Sure wanted one of those polished stainless steel Honda Zroom mufflers, but going for less noise, we opted for the Ugly muffler.

Truchaos - if you're reading this - If you would, please - tell us more about your system. Did you install the Ugly muffler? Was it worth the effort? We're sure pleased with ours.

P.S. Bill - this was a two six pack job, 1 to design it, and 1 to put it together!! Don't tell Dee. Yugo

Your setup is a steal ! Muffler and custom bent pipe for $70 can't be beat. You should make them and sell them on Ebay! Just factor in some profit and beer money and you're set. I'm pretty sure you could write off that beer money as operating expenses. It's an essential part of the manfacturing process correct? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If by the "ugly one" you mean the muffler that came with the tractor, yes that's the one I used.

The down swept muffler is the same as the vertical unit. The only difference is there's an extra pipe (long one) which connects the manifold pipe and muffler on the down swept setup.

I initially set mine up in the down swept position then had to flip it up so I could mount the FEL. All that noise and breathing the exhaust was quite a contrast. So I had the new manifold pipe made for $30. Not breathing all that diesel crap is worth 10 times that much in my opinion. After using the tractor for a few hours, my lungs felt scorched. Now, I'm breathing clear air. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
