Bluechip - I'll try to answer your question about the hydraulic filter. It's still in the testing and experimental stage. I installed it a year ago, at 140 hours on the tractor. We've just rolled over to 300 hours, it's ok so far ? We know enough about hydraulic systems to be dangerous!! I worked on forklifts for 30+ years, and we know you're not supposed to put a filter in the suction line, BUT we did remove the filter screen in the hydraulic tank to eliminate that hassle. I'll change the filter out way early, and open it up to see what's going on inside the filter. If the pump dies, I will be sure to post my OOPs. Thanks for asking - Yugo

I'm curious. I've heard that placing a filter on a suction line can damage the pump. Obviously, they can't be placed on the high pressure side, so why do they make and sell hydraulic filter assemblies if they cause damage???

Truechaos - To make a long story short, hydraulic filters are supposed to be installed in the return line not the inlet, or suction side. Any restriction will hamper the volume of flow to the pump. Normally, the rule of thumb, is the inlet to the pump is three sizes the diameter of the output, but these Jinma tractors are smaller than the norm. I'm not sure how they get away with using such small inlet tubing. But the punchline is: be sure to keep the screen in the hydraulic tank clean, to avoid any restrictions so the pump doesn't self destruct. Now that I have exhausted my knowledge have a great day. Though it's generally true, it's not a universal truth.

I've worked on many many hydraulic systems that are designed with inlet and suction side filters, and I'm not talking about just plain mesh screens either.
