Epoxy Metal to Plastic Recommendations

I picked up a strobe on E-Bay and I want to add a magnet to the base. Any suggestions, by name of product, for an epoxy that will attach the magnet to the plastic base? I am not sure of the type of plastic the strobe is made out of. I looked at Lowe’s and some of the epoxies would not work on plastic.

You must determine the type of plastic. If you have a removeable piece put it in water. If it floats you probably will not be able to glue it. If the surface feels slightly slick or greasy it will not accept adhesive. Scratch it with your fingernail. If it feels slightly rubbery It won't take adhesive. Finall try a bit of lacquer thinner on a hidden area. If it does not soften, it is one of the problem plastics as far as adhesives are concerned. Actually I would bet there is a code mark on the inside somewhere telling the type of plastic.

I have used "2-Ton Clear Epoxy" successfully on some plastics, but not all plastics have the same makeup. I have done some work with plastic piping, for example. Some can be joined with solvent cement, while others need to be welded together. That makes me hesitant to tell you that "Brand X Glue" will work out perfectly.

One caution - I used what I thought was a strong magnet on my strobe. Since the 'Bota doesn't have any shocks and springs in the suspension, it jarred the light off the ROPS a few times until I went with a mechanical fastener..............chim

You might check out Propoxy20 by Hercules Chemical Co.

A friend of mine came over and put it on our copper pipe that had a tiny hole in it. It stopped the leak for a couple days until we could get a plumber over to fix it.

Not sure about its ability to adhere to plastic. Seems pretty good stuff and easy to use. You cut off a piece, knead it until all gray and then apply. In 20 minutes, it's steel hard.

Take a piece of sandpaper and rough it up. JB Weld is available at Home Depot and will fill your need. Believe me this isn't rocket science.....

If all else fails..... use double sided tape or just screw it to the roof. If you screw it down, then you don't have the worry that it is going to fall off and damage the windshield, hood, or any other surface on the tractor. If it is permanently mounted, then it won't get lost either.
