I'm in the process of building a new home. Will have some basement and garage that I would like to have epoxy coated. About 2500 square feet total. Based on NEW, clean, concrete that is well cured.....what kind of (square foot) price should I expect to pay for a good quality epoxy floor coating?

I dont need a government spec job....but I do want good quality. Any pro's out there with sound advice?

'Do a search, Foggy. There is a good discussion on this site with many comments.Preparation is everything,or 90% at least. Search it,you'll be glad you did.

I'm certainly no pro and there's been some discussion of this topic in other threads with some saying there are better products than what I used on my garage floor, and I don't doubt that, but . . . I'm very happy so far with the Rust-Oleum EPOXYShield 2-Gallon Gray High-Gloss 2-Part Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Kit that I used on my garage floor; sure wish I'd applied it to my shop floor before I got so much stuff in the way in there. Since they show $107 for a product that covers 500 sg. ft., I reckon that would be $535 plus tax and labor for 2,500 sq. ft.

I did try to search....and got lots of funny stuff. I have trouble searching this site.....as compared to the past. I used to be able to find everything easily in time gone by.....now?....not so much.

Thanks for the tip Bird. Will give it a look.

Yeah....well if you read the question.....I was not asking about how to apply epoxy....I was asking what folks CHARGE to professionally apply epoxy. (And I did spend some time searching.....without much of a result regarding a price.)

So there. ;)

Well, I can answer that......TOO MUCH! LOL! Better do your research on a quality contractor to apply it. We had a bunch of epoxy applied here at a gov't installation, and the quality of work was mediocre at best. don-ohio :)^)

I was just trying to help with a better way to search site. I have no idea how much it would cost but was curious myself. I would like to do my garage and maybe basement. I know the pro jobs are expensive but a way better product then you can buy at HD. Although I am sure the HD product would be fine for me. But if it was reasonable in price why not?

It's like tractor shopping......for $1,400 more and can go up to 5 more hp, well for $2,000 I can go up +7 hp, well what about HST, remotes, **** I only want to buy this thing once, who knows I may need 3 remotes someday, oh yeah may as well upgrade the tires and bucket, and maybe a cab would be nice, if have cab may as well get a radio, heater and AC.....

Before you know it your $16,000 budget is over $50,000 :confused3:

Guess the HD self applied epoxy is going to have to do for me.

I used 2 part epoxy on my new etched and dried properly 2 car garage. It was one gallon paint and 1 gallon epoxy. I forget the brand, but mix them and roll it on. Guaranteed one coat. After I got done and waited a couple days it looked a little light in areas and a little streaky in others area. It covered in one coat but it wasn't a nice uniform color throughout. I squawked to the company number on the side of the can and they sent me a check to buy 2 more gallons to cover it properly. After the second coat all was fine.

Since that time I did a big garage and it turned out the same way with what I would consider bad coverage, but the owner said it was fine so I left it at that. The stuff wasn't cheap either. It is just something to think about when a contractor puts a coat on and then he might have to put another coat on to take care of streaks. Maybe before hiring someone, check out a previous job someplace.

What are you going to do in your garage? That determines the floor finish. Park cars, wood working, craft projects, Epoxy is oK. If you are using the garge as a shop and doing mechanical, iron work, welding ,etc epoxy will chip every time you drop someething on it heavy or sharp. The urethane coating products are resilient and do not chip. They make in two part and one part and water soluable. Expensive but worth it in the long run for shop floors. I use white to get good reflection working at floor level and under stuff. I learned this the expensive way as a maintenance manager for the US Navy.
