Can anyone recommend a source for a quality rebuild kit?

I'm assuming the tractor in your signature?

Not sure if Steiner has parts for those, but they seem to be a good company to deal with.

yep the JD. I wasn't sure if there was a brand that I should be looking for or one to stay away from. I have the catalog from Steiner so I'll call them and see if they have one available for my engine. Thanks for the response.

Reliance makes a real decent aftermarket kit for JD's..

Due to the fact that the JD 970 engine has no liners I doubt a rebuild kit is offered. I didn't locate a rebuild kit in JD parts catalog. You could check with Yanmar for parts for 4TN82 engine .

I'm seeing quite a few options on ebay but they are from chinese manufacturers and tbh I'm a little concerned about using some unknown brand although that is most likely what it will be.

Yesterdays Tractors might be a source, I have used them for Ford and Massey kits.

I just checked Hoye, no rebuild kit.

Weaver's has kits for JD (Yanmar) engines.
Rebuilt Kits for John Deere Compact Tractors
