Backhoe engine questions

I purchased a JD 310b backhoe and all my research tells me it should have a 4 cylinder diesal but it has a 3 cylinder instead. The plate on the side says 310b with the serial# so I do believe it is a 310b just not sure it is the right motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello mjmcquerry,and welcome to TBN.

Tractor data site says it should be a 4 cylinder.
The 310 had a 50hp 3 cylinder. That may be what someone installed.
