engine oil filter for tc40

I picked up a new engine oil filter for the next oil change and when I looked at the one on the tractor it is much larger than the one they gave me at the dealer. the new new holland one has stamped on it the numbers 87415600 is this one right or do I need to go back and exchange it.

That is the new 'correct' filter.

I just bought two of those tiny filters. They are just barely bigger in diameter than the gasket. I don't know if they are adequate, but I'm thinking of looking to some other supplier like Fleetguard. I just can't see paying NH's high price of around $9 for that tiny little filter. It appears to me that the filter is just over half the size of the previous filter. the old filter is much bigger. this is only the third oil change for the tractor so I am not used to seeing the filter. when I looked at it seemed small and than compared to the one on which I believe is the same size as the original there is a very noticible size differnce. I wonder if the smaller size will protect the engine the same as the original one. I don't ever remember any of my car oil filters changing sizes after a few years. Funny thing is this small new one cost more than the bigger older ones.

you might take a look at napa's 1452, i think everything is the same but more than twice as big. its used on other model NH diesels.........

I didn't look into it, but I bought a filter for my 2120 a year ago and it was one of the small ones. I questioned it and the clerk said that was what they changed too. Since then however, I've gotten the larger ones I used to get. I didn't ask what was up. Maybe the bigger ones are still availabe or the dealer had some to use up. I'm getting due again so I'll check the numbers.

The larger size filter will not fit on my 2000 TC35D due to the FEL frame mount and hardware.. a bolt head prevents the larger filter from fitting. I had to go back to dealer to return the larger for a smaller(years ago).. the smaller filter even cost more.

I know many will look on this suggestion with suspicion, and I don't mean to start a discussion on it's acceptability, but I've used the Motorcraft FL-300 (and cross-referenced filters from Purolator and AC) on my 1720 and TC40D for almost 20 years now. It's equivalent in flow (superiorior actually), size, relief pressure, seal diameter, threads and construction to the larger NH filter.

The Motorcraft FL-300 oil filter is the equivalent to the larger NH filter?
