Broken crank slightly wore against one of the rods.

Should I replace the rod?

I wouldn't say ya or na, I know the new ones are $150 but I do know that Hoye sometimes has used ones. I don't know the price difference. Unless time is important you might consider putting an insert in there and see what is looks like or maybe you already have. Your aufully deep though with crankshaft and all not to go ahead and spend a little more for good sleep at night.

if you have a broken crankshaft, you'll have to replace that, and the wear on the connecting rods can cause too much play side to side, not good!..

That would be my choice.

Does a replacement have to be balanced to match the one remaining? Would it make any difference on these big twins? :)
only on a racing engine.. it's nice to have the entire rotating mass balanced, but it can be expensive!..

The connecting rod will probably be fine. Do you want to risk your overhaul on a "probably"? If it was my tractor and I was spending my money I'd spend a bit more and do it right.

In my opinion there is only one answer! Replace it!

That looks worn on a taper on the bearing mounting surface. What that means is the bearing will nit have the correct pressure applied on full contact with the rod surface. This means you are setting your engine up for a bearing issue. You will most likely in the near future repeating much of the work and expense beyond the cost of the rod soon.
