This afternoon, I came on two patroll cars with flashing blue lights, two huge wreckers, and two tractor trailers in the middle of a four lane highway. A forklift was transferring the disabled truck's load to the other one. The center of the trailer behind the disabled rig was touching the road . I guess someone put too much weight in the center of the trailer.

I've seen pics of a trailer at the dock, with a forklift through the floor. These new unibody (for lack of a better word) trailers can't seem to take heavy concentrated loads like the old ones.

Same reason tractor trailer wrecks still on the road take longer to clear now. With a heavily loaded unibody trailer, they tend to rip apart if a wrecker tries to flip it upright, w/o the load being emptied.

Progress, I guess.....

I must say I am disappointed at the lack of pictures.

I saw someone using several air bags to right a trailer. This was at the headquarters of the same wrecker company that was about to tow this wreck. It looked like a sales demonstration or a training exercise. Now, I wonder if the trailer was loaded.

The wreck I was driving was making a terrible rackett (loose belts) and I was concentrating on getting by the State Troopers without attracting attention. I wish I'd gotten pictures too.

LOL, I've been there before. "Be cool, look ahead, don't attract attention"

I saw that happen one time, just west of Nashville on I-40. The driver had apparently tried to haul a steel coil in a van trailer, which is a BIG no no. Those trailers are not designed to handle that much weight in a short span.

Dave,
That forklift through the floor is a site. I sure wish I'd gotten a picture of the broken trailer.
