Also check the ground where it connects to the frame of the tractor.

That is what I think it is. Find it, and even though it will probably feel tight, loosen it a little and twist it back and forth some, and then tighten it back up. I bet it has some paint on it causing it not to ground properly.

Good luck, RedDog

If when you say the voltage output was fine you mean that you read 12 volts on the meter, then you missed an earlier post. 12 volts is not fine, in fact it means that your battery is not being charged and is depleted. Your alternator is not charging for some reason. Expect that meter to read 14 to 15 volts when the engine is running and upper 12 volt range when the battery is at rest after sitting overnight if everything is working properly.

Things like solenoids are designed to work with a certain voltage to provide the mechanical force. If the voltage is too low then the solenoids plunger won't get pulled hard enough to complete the action. Maybe the low voltage is responsible for the fuel cutoff not working.

No ...I saw that. The reading was at 15 volts...at least at that ONE time. That'swhy I want to go over it again when I go back. Worst case it's warrantied and I have to work out with the dealer...getting it fixed. This will be his chance to shine, so to speak. It needs it's 50 hr service anyway. I was just trying to see if it was something simple I may have overlooked, and it may very well be! I'll look at it in about 2 wks and see.

What's funny is that I sometimes get so caught up in the disecting process that I miss the simple stuff.

Hello Cowboy. When you say that you went to start the tractor and it would not start are you saying the tractor would not turn over or the tractor cranked but would not start? Reason I'm asking is within the first week of owning my 45S it would not shut down one time with the key. Had to use the fuel shut off. After that it would not start. Turned over fine, just would not start. I reached up and found the lever that shuts off the fuel at the injection pump and found the lever stuck to the shut off position. I moved it back and forth a few times and sprayed some lube on it. My thinking is the gray engine paint probably was making the lever stick. Have not had a problem since. I see you also said the battery light was on. I'm guessing the light is turned on from the alternator. I assume the alternator has a fuse. That would be good to check as well. Check to make sure you have a good 12 volt supply to the alternator. Some alternators are designed to stop charging when the supply voltage drops below a certain point. You could check all your grounds. I'm not sure if the engine has a ground to the frame, but that would be good to check. You should read 0 volts at all of your grounds. Or very close to it. Hope this helps. Good luck and let us know what you find.

I'm going to take a look at that lever myself today. Worth a shot of lube I'm sure.
A strange thing happened to me yesterday. First I had a bit of a hard time starting. Lots of white smoke but no start. Usually I give it a bit of glow time to get it going but I couldn't get the indicator light on the dash to show glow. After a bit it finally did start so I started puttering around. Next thing I know I look at my dash and the tach is dead as well as everything else. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif When I tried to shut her down using the key I couldn't. I had to use the fuel cut-off. Started it again and everthing is fine. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I am suspecting an ignition switch problem. I think I'll give it a shot of lube as well and check the wiring to it to make sure everything is tight.
I'll let you know what I find.

My situation is definately electrical Donny. My attempt to start was met with dead silence except for the buzzer like sound that would occur when I turned the key back to the off position. Example...insert key...turn to on and wait for glow plug light to go off, except in my case it never came on.......turn key to off position and buzzer like sound would come on for a few seconds. Jump tractor off truck...glow light comes on and goes off when it should...tractor starts right up.....ride tractor around for a while to charge battery but battery light never goes off. Shut off tractor and it will not restart.

A bad ground can do strange things.
It is what I would be checking for first, then go from there..

I agree 100% with DK35Vince on the grounds. Just make sure you have at least 12 volts coming into the alternator. Without that, the alternator won't do much. Look at all the grounds closely. Check all the fuses as well. Good luck to you. Hopefully it is nothing serious. Keep us informed.

Checking grounds is free and easy. Rather than actually trying to check it for resistance just take it off and make a good connection when you replace it.

Oddly the CK30HST has no pull knob to shut off the fuel. Electric only and this could be a bummer. I would have to shut if off somehow before going home.

You see, if you had a gear drive machine you could just put it in a high gear and stall the motor /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My DK 35 is the same way.. (electric shutdown only)
If for some odd reason the engine will not shut down, I could likely push/pull the electric soleniod plunger by hand to shut it off..
