Electrical System Help

Hi Joe

Are you SURE you don't have a fuel shut off? My CK30 HST has a pull knob just under the key that will kill the fuel flow.

For you VT, I just went out and looked. No shut off. I have a black plug just below and towards the center of the key and another plug just above and to the center that I believe is for a horn. Maybe they decided not to use it anymore?

While inspecting the fuel pump in the past I have noted a cable rigging without the cable and I would likely try that and a few other things before blocking the intake. Unless I am experiencing a diesel runaway and then I will do whatever I can to kill it.

Can you explain what diesel runaway is ?

Thanks ...
John

Diesel runaway is when the engine finds a source of fuel other than diesel from the pump. The fuel source is unregulated and will allow the engine to rev past redline and potentially be destroyed. The usual fuel source is engine oil from rings, or valves. I've never had it happen to me but if it does I will shove whatever I have into the intake to kill the air supply or stand back and watch the show.

There are two types I know of. One where the engine experiences an increase in RPM's and You can't shut it down with the ignition or throttle or other normal means....The other is when the same thing happens only it's in gear and you're either on or off the machine...

Praying of course that the The rpm's are on the LOW side.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Everyone is giving good advice....
Remember tho a bad POSITIVE can do really wierd stuff too.
Check them both and check for acid in the battery. The start circuit on these tractors is very simple. Good positive, good ground, good switch....they will at least turn over, typically. Starters usually last very well, along with the glow plug circuit too.

Mine is a 2004 model and has the same knob as VT explained. If you saw one and its hook up, you could probably add it pretty easily unless they removed the control linkage parts at the engine. I've never used mine yet. Always have used the key.

NO manual shut off? That's strange. I also have this knob on my CK30HST. Maybe one of the dealers can add something here?? Never used mine........yet.

All of the CK 25 and 30's on my lot.....
The HST all have a manual engine stop cable
All the gears do not have a manual stop.
I am not sure of this reason.
