Electric Fence Problem

Checked the meter on the charger and it reports 'Check Fence'. Checked the fence and yep, no shock. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If I hold the wire that feeds the fence a little away from the attachment stud, I see a spark. So, I assume this means that the charger is working OK.

Any ideas of where to look for the problem?

Sounds to me like it might be going to ground on your fence somewhere(maybe) do you have the fence wire on plastic insulators on a T-Post,or do you have plastic insulators nailed to a wood post,these can slip off of an insulator and go to ground. Do you also have barbed wire IE: a 5 strand fence and running electric fence on the same post as regular fence ? If so I have had electric fence wire get tangled with the regular wire on the post and cause it to ground. Your charger could be failing as well. The 1st thing I would do is walk the fence vey slowly and look close at the wire and insulators. If you have a fence tester check the lead coming right off of the charger and try to get an idea of how strong the charge actually is.

I use horseguardfencing which uses 5 wire, mesh tape and plastic stand offs on wooden posts.

The meter on the charger goes into the green when it's disconnected from the fence, which according to Parmak, means the charger is OK.

I have 2 Parmak fencers...the 50 mile fencer. I have walked the fence line many times to find the ground,sometimes it is hard to find the places...I have walked and rewalked the fences before I found the ground. I have had the fencer performance meter clear down it the red indicating a serious ground and walked the fence and could not find the ground and finally disconnected the charger from the fence and still was in the red and the charger was bad.
