Somewhere on one of these threads a member complained that his five foot high fence wasn't high enough. So he put three foot extensions on the posts and strung clothes line with ribbons from the extensions. Apparently the visual deterred the deer from attempting a jump.
Don't pee on your electric fence!
I have posted something similar. I used to have cattle panels around the garden and would use pvc extensions on my 6' t-posts and tie nylon cord with flags on it, or just marking tape. That would be at about 6.5-7'. The deer never jumped in. Now I've got 60" 2x4 welded wire, which should keep out most rabbits, and will be adding a hot wire on top of that, with the fence grounded, mainly to discourage coons. To keep the deer out I will have stuff inside the fence, like tomato cages in one area and pole bean supports in another area. Wherever I don't have something like that I'll string some kind of visual barrier to discourage the deer from jumping in. There are lots of deer around here, but they usually have many options for food and just don't get desperate enough to jump something like I have. We get posts from the west about 7' deer fnces and it makes me wonder if blacktail deer may be more aggressive than our whitetails.
