I need to come up to speed on how these work. Since my initial attempt this year has met with the drought word, I am curious on how to mitigate my risk for the future.

What is available, where, how to start? Where to look? A primer of sorts would help me out.

Has anyone taken advantage of the bio-fuel switch?

Thanks.

Moss hit the nail on the head. Contact your extension agent.

If you want to educate yourself (via the internet) prior to calling him, do a google search.

"Crop Insurance" brought in some good links....

"Government Farm Subsidies" returned some good ones too... It was shocking to discover that a lot of Americans in farming districts get $ from the federal government each year and they don't even farm...they just own the land that was once farmed by someone else.

Happy searching.

there is a website where you can see how much govenment money was received by your neighbors.

I am interested in preserving my property, my products and my futures.
Which serves the community, with services and growth.

Thanks.

Like most government programs, it serves those who need and deserve it and it is also highly abused by many who don't.

We can leave politics out of it and still supply the information as to what's out there and where to get it.

For instance, back around 1990 we bought some land, rented out a few acres, took it out of farm production the next year, had some trees planted under a state program and were reimbursed for 75% of the cost. I got all of that information through my county extension agent.

Great Site!!!!!!!

Since I live in the Peanut capital of the U.S. (50% of all the United States' peanuts are grown within a 100 mile radius of Dothan, Alabama), I looked up a few local farmers...

Unbelievable! A lot of $ doled out, of course I don't know how much they have invested prior to their "losses", but my goodness I am completely shocked!

Appreciate the link, knowledge IS power!

What Podunk said.

Thank you so very much for the information. I came to this conclusion today with an article in the WashPost. Mind you this past w/e I mowed over some corn my neighbor lost. I realize it is a hot potatoe to some, but it could be a tool for me.

This drought here has been unreal. A storm came through last night. Right up the road from us, 2inches of rain. Here, narry a drop. Unreal.
