Educate me on Farm Subsidies!

In order to mitigate risk for next year, we have elected to lease out parts of our holdings.

We took a "bath" this year. And since we did not have a lot of water, it was not pleasant.

OPINION / Big difference in farm subsidies and federal crop insurance/ subsidies are part of the program and are available to everyone participating in that crop-I do not consider that to be a hand out. Federal crop insurance on the other hand is in place to remedy crop failures beyond the growers control/ The problem is the SAME people have the SAME failure year after year and WE pick up the bill.

Just curious, how is that not a handout? Just because a lot of people get it?

The way I look at it, if it isn't your money and you didn't do or sell anything to earn it then its a handout.

My point was in my orginal post, [participating in that crop] $help is provided to ensure or assist farms to be profitable/ I never said anything about the landowners who reap free $ and who do not grow crops and have no active interest in doing so. Yep , that is a handout.
