Echo SRM225: runs butt dies when applying throttle

Try cleaning the muffler. I have an echo that had the same symptoms as yours. I removed the muffler and saw it was clogged with oil and carbon. I used carb cleaner to remove the gunk and deleted the spark arrestor screen entirely. Ran like a champ after that.

I had that clogged muffler issue on my Husqvarna trimmer once, and it had that slow to accelerate problem.
Turns out I was using too much oil in my oil gasoline mix and I also was not running my trimmer at the full operating speed.

I switched to synthetic oil mix and haven't had a problem since.

I was using synthetic oil at the time and still do now.
I was just making my oil/gas mixtures more 1 to 40 rather than 1 to 50 per recommendations of an old
retired chain saw mechanic.
Coupled with extended periods of not running at full throttle.
Since mixing oil/gas at 1 to 50 and running full throttle, I have note had any issues.

My 230 was doing that and I bought one of those kits with all the hoses, rubber plug, and fuel filter. I then bought that premix in a can (no ethanol).

Runs like new. It's 12 yrs old.

I have a very old echo that was a hand me down. Ha same problem, but after cleaning air filter it runs fine.

I ran it again last night, just let it idle a bit. It runs a little rough, then all of a sudden stronger, putting out a little smoke - at that point I can give it full throttle - but it dies soon afterwards.

I've also seen them at home depot and walmart.

Sometimes the vent gets clogged and can't bring in air.. After it runs and you open the gas tank, can't you hear air suck in?

I ran it again last night, just let it idle a bit. It runs a little rough, then all of a sudden stronger, putting out a little smoke - at that point I can give it full throttle - but it dies soon afterwards.

I have an older Ryobi trimmer and I was having a similar issue. It would run great with the choke full closed, but when I opened the choke, it would die when I squeezed the throttle. Turns out that the gas tank fuel line had degraded so badly that it was no longer using the filter at the end of the line. It was pulling fuel in thru the gas line mainly without the filter in play. Replaced the line and re-attached the fuel filter and back to normal again. Just a thought.
