I found a new 18 foot car hauler with wood decking, one axle brake, ramps and dove tail for 1350.00 on ebay. It looks good but seems priced cheaply i am going to buy a trailer in the next week and want a good deal. I would have to drive about 4 hours to go get it so i am gonna go price one locally and see what kinda of price i can get to compare it to. Does this price seem right i dont know if i can post the link or not i would imagine this trailer would be 2000 or more in my area. This is the exact trailer i have been looking for if i buy one locally i will have to order it.

Heres the item number on ebay. 150154978634
Trailers of all kinds sure are dirt cheap down South! :) Assuming this trailer meets your load and dimensional requirements, just make sure that one set of brakes will be adequate for you and meet your state's requirements (if any).

My tractor will be just under 4000 with the cutter on back and about the same weight with the FEL and boxblade. It has 2500# axles and i am sure a single axle brake will be plenty.

Actually, it has 3,500 lb axles, but I get your point. Personally, I'd want brakes on both axles, but that's just my "belt & suspenders" approach to trailering.

Two things worry me after looking at those pictures.

He painted the steel after installing the wood floor. That means there is no paint on the steel frame anywhere under the wood. His obvious lack of attention to masking the wood speaks of potential quality issues elsewhere such as the welds. Was the welder as sloppy with the welds as the painter was?

More important is the location of the axles. Maybe it is the picture angle, but the axles appear to be too far back by a foot or more. The tongue weight will be very excessive. If you pull a 4000 tractor rig all the way to the front, it looks like very little weight will be behind the midpoint of the two axles. Excessive tongue weight will cause the tow vehicles front end to be too light and tend to wander. A wandering front end is scary and dangerous.

Call me negative, but that might be the reason why this $2000-2400 value is so cheap.

Make sure you check your state's (and any you will travel in) laws, some require 2 brake axles above a certain weight.

I too would want 2 brake axles, most of the time one or none is adequate, but that one time when hard braking is necessary, makes it worth it. I one spun a trailer carrying a car, about the same weight as your tractor. Trailer had very poor brakes did a 180 on a two lane road and I was only going about 45 MPH. Trailer started to sway and I couldn't pull out of it because I was going down hill. Good brakes would have snapped it staight! I won't tow anything overy 2500-3000 lbs total weight without 2 good brake axles...learned the hard way. When I sun I had a full size blazer, not the best tow vehicle. Now I have a heavy duty 3/4 pickup and still want good trailer brakes!

Sorry for the winded post!

Surely its painted under the boards but you never know. I am gonna price a trailer locally with brakes on both axles i have bought 2 trailers with them before and they have been good trailers. I would hate to drive 5 hours and find out the trailer was not what it was said to be. I once drove 6 hours to look at a rust free inpala ss it was rusted out so bad it was total junk.

I went shopping and found a 20 footer for 2550 more than i want to spend. I did find 18 footer like the one on ebay for 1795.00 and its only 45 minutes away. I can not find a trailer that has brakes on both axles i guess its special order only
nobody has them in stock. I am going to look at them next thursday and if it looks good i am gonna buy it. I should be able to get it for around 2000 including taxes and perm tags 2100 at the most plus a brake controller.
