For the heavy spring on the telescopic link, I just smash it with my foot and once the link is out of the lock position it generally is not hard to move it.

Ha! I'm not the only one.

I like the cams for the extendable lift arms. They often seemed to get knocked back in as I slide the arms over the pins. I use ski straps as mentioned in this thread:

to hold the arm release levers down.

They aren't as convenient as your idea but more appropriate for my limited metal working skills.
