And, I eat butter on my popcorn.

So then you have made the choice to walk on the wild side....you might as well go all the way and add a lot of Salt....LOL

BTDT.

For me it's sugar that kills my body. I can eat fat and carbs and maintain a comfortable body mass. I swear I'd gain a pound a day, though, even if all I ate was half a pound of sweets.

Funny, I love potatoes cooked any way possible...Love them..but one potato will put at least a pound on me. other carbs are OK, no problem..just potato...funny how that works.

On that subject about hearts and oils. my family has a history of bad hearts, So the Dr said take daily Salmon fish oil, omega 3 oil and or flaxseed oils, ya think that oil is good for the ole tickers and arteries..Maybe it cuts the cocoanut oil down??Yeah..

those omega 3 fatty acid oils are GOOD for the heart..

anything partially hydrogenated is pretty much bad.. :)

I put in a brand new under counter microwave in the new basement bar last year. All nice and shiny new. The wife went to use the microwave to make popcorn in a bag. She inadvertently placed the bag upside down.

Smoked out the basement and turned the inside of the microwave dark brown. The microwave still smells a little like popcorn when used.

Ahh, how i love (not) those little bags now.

Yup them thin pc's of whatever is in them bags is what heats up and actually pop the kernels, ;) can't pour enough butter and salt to cover up that nasty Burnt taste:drool:
and also tell her she forgot to use the "magic popcorn Button" at least it would have stopped after the last kernel had popped:D

problem was, none popped. it just burnt. I threw out the rest of the costco box that they came in , and we bought a counter top oil popper. Like the popcorn more and it doesn't have 35 unknown ingredients in there.

Oh! so that'll teach you for not building her that fireplace she wanted in the basement;)

ya, i would have LOVED to have a fireplace down there, but the yahoos in the building dept here wont allow a fireplace in a full basement (though mine is only half underground). I would need a full daylight basement before they would allow a fireplace down there. I do have a 220 volt fake one though. heats nicely but would take 20 years to pop corn hehe

Corn oil does not have the right flavor for popcorn?? Now that is weird!

ps I cannot believe I just read & then posted in a popcorn thread. I don't even know myself anymore.

As I said, corn oil will do in a pinch, but if you haven't tasted popcorn popped with coconut oil, you haven't tasted popcorn.

There have been all sorts of theoretical myths about what is healthy and not healthy, but the fact is that the only unhealthy thing is too much of anything. You hear about how healthy soy products are, but in Japan where their diet is mostly tofu, it causes premature senility. Butter is not bad for you, but a pound a week will kill you. Moderation and a varied diet is the only sure healthy way to eat.

cn't imagine there are any 'healthy' benefits to 'fried' food. Just not seeing it.

theoretical myths huh? yeah.. that's what it is. never mind all the medical science and the proof walking around.. or rolliong around in the lil scooters to back any of it up.

everything in moderation right? how about a moderate level of ricin? maybee not huh?

hehe... i could use some ricin ... there are a few people id like to send some to. I also know some sick looking vegans an some healthy looking bacon eating meat freaks. Genetics do have alot to do with the equation. My dad ate super healthy most of his life, never smoked and seldom had a drink of alcohol (His limited diet due to celiac disease issues), but only lived into late 60's while my chain smoking and hard drinking mother in law outlived him.

the local movie theater was refilling their bulk maker the other day and I looked at their bottle of oil. it was mostly: cottonseed oil, palm kernal oil, and coconut oil, as listed in that order, top to bottom, ( salt, and some other fake butter flavor and a stabilizer..e tc.. ) thus.. some pretty good stuff ( YIKES! )

soundguy

THANK YOU!!!! I have been using half Coconut and half Palm oil and it has been close but no cigar!

I am happy with my results with the Power Pop, but prefer the Stircrazy by far.
I just need to find a good cheap source of Cottonseed oil to perfect my home popcorn.
