Another option to use is startpage.com for a private search engine. You can kind of think about startpage as Google without the invasion of privacy and DuckDuckGo as Bing without the invasion. I use both as they will return different results but startpage is my default.

Yeah I still use Google from time to time because of the results differences. They are all in bed with one commercial source or the other. The first choices from DuckDuckGo are always from Amazon. The ananimity doesn't last past the first click away from the search page.
