Heya crew,

I've got a little DS3510 with a starter solenoid issue. Basically:

  1. For some time, the 'click' when turning the key to just before start was intermittently happening or not
  2. Finally stopped happening at all
  3. I think we incorrectly diagnosed that as the stop solenoid because...
  4. Replace the stop solenoid with a brand new one and still no clicky or firey
  5. Engine cranks but doesn't fire
So, my question is, what should the stop solenoid rod be doing at which times? I'm guessing it's supposed to withdraw and then release?

Thanks guys.

Oh, also, if anyone has a soft copy of the DS3510 shop manual I'd be grateful for a link.

I take it it’s a 3 wire solenoid.??
This has been covered .. a lot.
Do a search for Kioti shut off solenoid.
U can test your old one..
Black is ground (-)
Red is hold (+)
White is pull in (+)

It takes a lot of amps to pull in, so if you’re going to test it with a battery charger, you’ll have to “help it” close..
Same with the RED.. it switches over to LOW AMPS when it’s hooked up to the tractor, but it still should hold in..
Good luck with your search.

Thanks guys. So when I'm testing, should the rod withdraw then release, or what should it do at what times?

Not sure about your tractor but on my backhoe I hold it open with haywire when I use it the release it to shut off.

OK, she's running - summary just in case someone else lands on this page:

- Pin/rod should automatically withdraw at the key position just before cranking starts - this is what normally makes a loud clicking sound that you can feel if you touch the back of the solenoid
- Relay that initially tested OK was actually faulty and not providing the juice required to pull the pin/rod in
- Lesson as always don't assume your test scenario is sufficient if it doesn't fully emulate real conditions/requirements

Up and running for the cost of an eBay solenoid (may not have needed but now have a new one) and a relay (uprated to 40/30 from 30/20 amps).

Thanks again all.
