Yes, but if you are concerned due to unusually light studs, use an extra screw per stud (use 6 screws per 4-foot attachment to a stud instead of 5 screws). Additional screws are often used in drywall for applications where the wall is needed for some shear support.
Glue and 3 screws on the wall. Get the depth set correctly and they’ll be fine.

As a remodel contractor, I can't even count how many houses I've worked on that had the original sheetrock was installed with fine thread sheetrock screws. In my opinion, they hold the sheetrock to the wall just fine. Nothing to indicate that there is an issue, or shouldn't have been used.

I don't like them myself and I never buy them, but I don't see any issue in using them.

In a pinch, I've used deck screws, Hardie screws and wood screws to do sheetrock repairs.

For installing sheetrock, I use course thread screws.

In wood working I use fine thread screws in hard lumber, such as oak and maple. And coarse thread screws in soft wood, such as pine. Jon
