Try putting up your own still and see how fast the Feds come down on you...
...and alcohol's legal.

I know you can brew a certain quantity of beer...not sure about distilled products.
Main thing is it must be for personal use (no selling).

I have been doing a little checking on this. Everything I have read say that making whiskey is illegal. But i can make ethanol legally. :D

I haven't researched it, but my understanding is that it is the distillation process which makes it illegal. Nothing to do with personal use vs. sale/gift.

I remember seeing an episode of "Modern Marvels" that dealt with distilleries. One of the segments featured a restaraunt that served their own distilled spirits (I'm thinking vodka for some reason).
I seem to remember the owner of the restaraunt/distillery saying that most of the regulations and red tape he encountered during the approval process dealt with ensuring that the state and federal taxes were paid accurately and timely.
In fact after bottling the booze, the restaraunt had to turn it over to the government to apply the appropriate tax labels . When that was done the restaruant then "purchased" the spirits back from the govenment to sell in their establishment:confused2:
