To quote an old MEATLOAF song: Two out of three ain't bad. :p

 How do you pound the ring lands that bad!?!? Especially on a tractor that clean? Why do I have a feeling the original owner dogged the engine, afraid to run it at high RPM?

Well, at least you found the reason for the smoke & hard starting! How bad are the cylinder walls?

Incedible, but they seem to be fine, no scratches. I have no measuring instruments though. (Thank god)

That is why I use WD40 and only use ether as a last resort.

Anyone ever try propane/butane as a starting aid?

I know gas can cause runaway.. so obviously diesel engines will burn it.. etc..??

Ok, so rings, pistons and perhaps some cylinder work? That was why it was running when you got there:( With the pistons in that kind of shape, I would definitely take the block/cylinders to a machine shop to get them specced. You are this far into it, might as well zero-hour it.

Man you work fast.

Wow save those pictures for anyone thinking of free-basing with ether:mad: Just finished the 30 hr mark and will definitely kick the rpm's up- Yes (duh) I didn't know that low rpm's can cause that kind of damage -never loaded down the engine though. -Ed

He reminds me of a colony of ants... they work fast.

I can remember seeing a colony form up around say.. a deat rat in the pasture in the morning while feeding the horses.. and then later in the evening I'd go back out and it was gone completely save for a small bone fragment or two!

Dident mean to brag, just satisfied with the reasonable prices, not often these days!
Went to a friend today, he is very good with the lathe. Together we made an hydraulic extractor for the cylinder linings. (friends hydraulic) I am really looking forward to test the "thing"
