I still feel that the "off shore" drills biggest shortcoming is the lack of low speeds. Yes, they are are not fine tools for production work but they still suffice for my amateur jobs.

I built an extra jack shaft unit to slow down one of my drill presses.
It’s the outboard assembly on the right in the top picture.





This dropped RPM’s down to around 100.

That is what my dad did with his drill press and it works great.(plenty good for a garage)
