It just spins to go straight and aims down to go deeper. If you want to go right you aim the bent duck right, so when you’re trying to change direction it doesn’t spin. Want to go straight just it just spins again.

That the simple version; only thing I disagree with, is if your looking at a 15% up-pitch, and you drill, you won't go "straight" as in 0%; you'll continue climbing at approx 15%, until you apply steering.

I think we are saying the same thing, but people hear straight, they think level

Yeah. You always have to factor in the angle %

Well this machine is killing me with downtown. Working a job and the mud pump stopped working. Next day aired another to me because the project is behind. $825 in shipping. I guess I'll try to rebuild the old one. I've had a couple good days and the drill with definitely make money one the kinks are worked out.

Got a 16", 680 shot coming up late next week; and reviewed drawings for dual 24" shots at 1200 ft long. If I think about it, I'll take a picture or two of the reamer, mud reclaimer, ect. It's a whole different operation than the small 350 ft 4" shots, and it both takes Far longer, and pays Far more.

Don't want to upload anything showing company names, ect. But here is the drill for that 16" shot.

Had to do three drills for this 400ft run. Drill pull, drill pull, plow, drill pull then plow to ped.

Week ago this past Saturday, we finished up a 1300lf pull back of 30" behind a 42" reamer, with a Veermer D1000x900.

Maybe I shouldn't say We; I was just keeping an eye on the road for damage/heaving/frac outs (or as they want people to say now, unintentional fluid returns)

Have the telecoms started increasing their price per foot yet? Seems like the local ones are paying between $5.50-7 per foot; for 1.5" or 2" single conduit.

A little more that that. The project I’m on now is same price plow/bore/trench. So plowing is amazing $ wise and boring is ok. Last project I was on both plow and bore was less but the ONLY thing in the ground was rural Verizon so it went in easy.

About 6 years ago, there was a Major fiber build out, and I knew a driller well, who complained about the $2.50 "by any means" they wanted to pay. Sure, if you can plow 10 miles of road, that's fantastic; but when you have to drill (or missile) a driveway every 200 ft, and a side road every 1200 ft, it starts not looking as good.

The biggest complain I heard recently, isn't even the price per foot; it's just that Comcast/AT&T want to pay the same price per foot, but add additional requirements. No pictures of before start, that's 10% deduction, no picture of the ground rod in hand hole, we only pay 50% for that hand hole, ect. It doesn't sound like much, but when you add another 30 minutes of pre-work, then 30 minutes of post work, and then want the pics uploaded into the billing system; all for same footage price, that starts eating into the small guys pocket.

Yesterday we did a 590lf river shot, about 45 ft deep but tracking from the boat was iffy at best. All 4", behind a 6" reamer. Was about 8 hrs from head in ground to pipe back.

Starting point.
IMG_9778.jpeg

Drill 165ft under two gas lines and two driveways.
IMG_9780.jpeg

Gas line location filled with drill water even though I was 1ft under it.
IMG_9782.jpeg

Second gas line.

End point at transformer with 3 power feeds in conduit leaving it.

New box to replace the old small metal one so there is room for 100ft extra fiber coil.
