Helping a neighbor brush hog yesterday in my MX5800, looked at the dash and saw the oil pressure light so reached down and hit the PTO switch to see what was going on and the tractor shut down. From the trail it looks like I went about 150 yards streaming oil pretty good. Never recovered the plug, got a temporary bolt from TSC this morning and put that in then filled the oil and tried to start. Everything turns, sounds normal, no error codes, but won't turn over. I tried to reset the codes anyway and nothing. Tried to put some starter fluid in and nothing. Any ideas? Dealer doesn't open until Tuesday.

Earlier in the day I hauled water and food to all my critters and chipped for about two hours and I saw no oil after backtracking. I trailered it to his place and there's no oil on the trailer. On small moist spot (maybe 1" in diameter and only on the surface of the dirt) in the dirt under the tractor shelter but I think it's fuel residue from topping it off before I left for his place.

I guess on the bright side my last payment is next month so KTAC is still on:(

Maybe a safety switch messing with you? Like a PTO safety switch, either the button On or the PTO lever in gear or any other levers. Just guessing here.

Yeah, thought that too but if I engage the PTO or step on either peddle for the HST the starter doesn't engage so the only way I thought of to test them. Even set the brake and put the seat forward.

Also I tried bleeding the fuel line even though it self bleeds and I didn't see any air at all.

The engine doesn't turn on the starter? Does the starter engage?

Starter works fine when PTO isn't engaged or HST peddles aren't pressed. Everything turns (shaft/fan), everything sounds normal with starter turning. Engine won't start.

Does it build oil pressure when it turns on the starter? No engine guard that needs resetting?

I've flipped through the workshop manual and owners manual several times and I don't see any reset options outside of fault codes (there were/are no codes showing). The oil pressure light turns off when you engage the starter, not sure if that's automatic or if it's actually detecting pressure at that point.

In your first post, are you saying the engine shut off by itself before you could turn the key off?

Also how much oil did you put in compared to max capacity?
Everything turns, sounds normal, no error codes, but won't turn over.
Does that means the engine turns with the starter but does not fire?

The use of starting fluid can lead to very bad results and it's best to stay away from using on a diesel.
