For something as critical as FEL mounting bolts, it would seem that setting final torque with a decent torque wrench would be something of a no-brainer. :confused3:

Sorry, I guess I was at least partly responsible for a HUGE thread drift, but I remain in the camp with clayhardock, john_bud and RG. I will agree to disagree with graydog.

May we please now return to our regularly-scheduled thread? - Jay

I helped drag it off course as well. I still say an impact wrench for putting bolts on is not the best choice. Especially in a situation where an end user may have to take them off.

So yes, you put that bolt with an impact wrench. Of course a torque wrench set to 100# is going to click. But if it is torqued to 150# you would never know. Then add in that rust, salt and debris can be twice as bad any form of loctite.

But do you want a friend or family on the side of the highway trying to break that bolt loose?

So I won't trust an impact wrench anywhere near my equipment.

That's great! It doesn't look like anything was ever wrong, and that's what you want.:)

That's good to see it back ready to work.
