Doing your on logging?

I want to thin my woods for tree health, quality, visibility and i want the lumber.

and, stickered and covered, the boards are like money in the bank. A (free) ad on Craig's List can turn them into quick cash.

or use them for projects around the property and avoid having to buy lumber from the store... but yes free cash in some sense

Well probably gonna tick everyone off but the more I read how pathetic my trees are and that nobody wants to mess with such a small tract on rough terrain confirms if it is going to get done that I am going to have to do it.

There is something to be said for doing things for yourself Rio Grande that is worth more than a few $$ in your pocket in my opinion. Go slow and careful (you have the freedom to NOT be a production operation) and have fun! You get to do it your way and even if you get paid little to nothing for your time at least you can use it as an excuse to buy a little extra gear to make it easier and next time around you will know a lot more.

Don't forget the slow and careful!!

what size tractor do you have.

a hydrualic milemarker winch can be hooked upto some rear remotes of a tractor and with some snatch blocks you can winch logs 100-200-300' up through trees and through Terran you couldnt otherwise get logs out of.

all with a fairly small tractor.

And you would spend more than you will get for the amount of timber involved.

That is exactly what I think. You will learn alot.

Talk to the mill guy - bring him a log to show him what you have. Then decide what you will do.
Your logs may or may not be pathectic. It is just that the cost of moving equipment and the cost of extraction make it an unattractive job to the loggers you have talked to.
