More from my "Dog on a Log" series... My 95 lb mutt on a big cottonwood that recently came crashing down*: few years back I'd measured it at 5 1/2' in diameter; well over 125' tall.

* To answer the age-old question of whether a tree makes a sound when it falls in the woods and no one is around: YES (heard this from 1/8 mile away inside the house, in the mist of a storm raging)!

Fetch!

5-1/2 feet diameter is a big tree. Cottonwoods and not long lived and sprout back up from the roots, the root-ball and the trunk. Glad I don't have to clean it up.

Sisters - Ginger and Maggie. They are both gone now but they remain in my heart.
Makes me want to hug them!

It's really hard (had one dog that would be impossible to describe how phenomenal she was- a legend if there ever was one). The only solution is to grow a bigger heart. I know that I've got to do this before the day comes that my current dog has to go (she's more of a "dog" than my other one, but a comical and big love of a beast)...

Yes ... it hurts to lose them - but - I love my dogs and can't imagine life without them.

I have a special boy now who really earned his name ... Goober. His mom was a black lab but his father was just passing through town - lol. He's a handsome guy.

Not that this is a breakout moment, but am now just to the point of trusting Kisha around the critters. Fairly confident that there won't be any attacks (aerial or ground) when she's outside: still working with her on picking up aerial predators UP in the air- Xena was great at scanning the skies). Kisha has educated me on what a food motivated dog is. Pretty sure that the feeder won't get raided by some outside entity!:D

^^^ Nothing beats kids and puppies! (frigging COVID kept us from having the wife's granddaughter around with Kisha when both were growing up- the granddauther and parents are up in Canada)

I'm new to this thread and I have been going through the post from the latest to the oldest. I have thoroughly enjoyed not only the pictures, but I have also learned from some of the wisdom in the posts.
Here is Etta Faye, she's an Aussie and smart as a whip. We rescued her and her litter mate sister (Heddie Maybe) at eight months of age. They were kept in a garage 24hrs a day and now enjoyed their freedom on our 12 acres.
Thank you too all who have contributed.

Our old neighbor lost his pooch a couple months back to old age. Waited about a month and adopted a 8 month old pooch.

Pooch was from a breeder, and no one wanted it. So it spent it's whole life to this point locked in a cage.

This pooch is so skiddish of everything. Gets pretty overwhelmed when he goes outside.

It's gonna take quite a bit of time and patience for the pup to come around
