Thx but i couldn't do anything but save her. Have you seen the humane society commercials, the ones that i can't watch?
The scene last Sunday morning, 22 degrees, would have won the academy award for humane society commercials. I just broke down, it was very hard to see that in person.
It's been 5 days and i guess if no one claims her by monday, it time to get her to the vet.
Monday she gets a name, you can't eat them once you name them.
She is as sweet as they come. Sleeping with her head in my lap.

I don't think i'm replying to anything? Just to announce that the stray dog has a new home! with me. Her 1 week probation period is over, she's in the union, untouchable now!
Final test yesterday, friend brought out his 2 dogs and everyone got along.
Her name is Sunday because thats the day I found her and it reminded me of the Chris Christoferson song, Sunday morning breakdown! It was !

Matsu is 4 years old and heading off to his first show of the year. We found a new handler, so we're not sure what to expect. He is staying with them this week, and the show is next weekend. He was number 13 in the nation last year, and the two times he was at the same show as the number 1 Akita, he beat him both times. I took these pictures yesterday morning, before he left.

That’s a fine looking dog Eddie. How is his disposition? Are Akita’s generally easygoing or somewhat energetic?

Thank you. Our Akita's are show dogs, so their temperament has to be very good. They get handled and inspected by a new judge every day, and if it's a good day, three different judges in one day. But as a breed, and at home, they are extremely protective and loyal. They kill anything that comes into their yard, and they run up and down the fence all day trying to get everything that is outside their yard. Originally they where bred for hunting, but most people get them for protection.
Most of the time, they are sleeping or resting. They are not overly energetic, but they do need to be exercised regularly to stay out of trouble. When we go to bed at night, they sleep the entire night without making any noise unless something alerts them. Then they are very loud and full of energy. Same thing during most of the day. They will wonder around the yard, and they will play with each other for awhile, but then most of the day, they are relaxing and napping.
We have five, and each one is different in how easy going they are. Matsu is the Alpha, and he is very hyper and aggressive in what he wants. He scares new people because of how badly he wants to meet them. His bark is frightening, and I haven't met anybody that will get close to the fence when he's barking at them from the other side. The oldest female is the worse at killing things. She's been bit by copperhead snakes twice that we know of from killing them, and we find a few dead snakes in the yard every year that are probably from her. One evening, she and Matsu ran down to the fence line and grabbed a cotton mouth. She had the head, he had the tail. They pulled it apart and it made a popping sound so loud that you wouldn't think it was possible. He ran off with his end, which turned into a game for him to not let us get it from him. She walked away once it was dead, but we never found her end of it. The other boy if fixed and he is just a giant cuddle bear that gets along with everyone and is really just pure love. The two sisters just turned 2 back on the 19th and together, they are huge bullies to the others. They always want to play, and they are now big enough to be a problem. We cannot let both of them out with any of the others. Only one of them at a time can play with the others, and only Matsu is strong enough to deal with each of them in all out playing. They are super sweet to people and so far, they have not tried to kill anything or get in on it when something gets into the yard. They just sit back and watch.

Dog show that was supposed to be happening this weekend was cancelled, so Matsu got all cleaned up with nowhere to go. Next dog show for him is in two weeks.

Show dogs always look so proud! I used to think it was kinda cruel but have since learned the dogs love all the attention.
If you get bored, search ....... painting pictures on Standard Poodles......or something.
I bumped into the photos on the web and they are amazing. Again, I thought it might be cruel. Nope, dogs love the attention.

Our first attempt at a show dog failed because he hated it. He was eager to go at first, they all seem to love road trips, but once he got there, he didn't like all the attention, or being in the ring. He still gets excited when he sees the van pull up to the gate, and he loves going to the groomer and the vet, but he was miserable at dog shows.
Then we got Kami, and she was a dog show diva!!! She loved to go to shows, she loved the attention, and she did fantastic in the ring. When the enjoy it, there is no denying it. She was always eager to go, and I honestly thing, she just loved to travel and see new places.
Matsu is the same, he loves to go. You cannot hardly hold onto his leash when trying to get him into the van, he wants into the van so badly. At the show, he enjoys the attention and he loves everyone. He is a different animal at a show compared to at home. Here, he is super protective and aggressive towards everything outside the fence. UPS, mail, meter readers, friends and even my parents. When they come down the driveway, he goes into full Akita attack mode. His bark is impressive. But at a show, anybody can approach him and pet on him. Night and day. In the ring, he is alert with a spring in his step. It's really amazing seeing the transformation!!!
When he comes home, we always wonder if he had fun, and if he wants to go again. So far, he is super eager to go, so we'll keep going until he doesn't want to anymore. He is already a Grand Champion, so there really isn't anything in it for him other then networking, and adding to his collection of ribbons. My wife also loves being at the dog shows and hanging out with the other dog owners. It's a competition, but it's not like sports when you are trying to beat each other, it's more along the lines of a car show where everyone brings their best and enjoys what each other has to show.

Me and dad tonight after I went for takeout (the two 16 year olds can now drive to their part time jobs together now, and wife is away looking after her mom). Drop a piece of food, and it's gone LOL (two small white ones are my wifes parents dogs we took in).
Have to laugh, my dad about 15 years ago out on the front lawn (below). 3 of those dogs were ours (others fostering). No one left out of that group. Seems like my dad is always surrounded by dogs when he use to come down, and now that he's living here.

When my wife and I first got married, we did foster for the first 9 or 10 years of our years of our marriage. We ended up getting involved with our local humane society because our county was litterally using a gas box and just dumping 10-20 dogs at a time in the box to put them down at the county dump.
We've actually kept track of them all over the years as we have a bunch of these hanging on the wall. Some dogs were pretty easy to find homes for, others ended up with us for some long periods of time due to a host of variables with the dogs personality.
Honey (middle left above) and Jack (middle right above) came to us together. Still remember how they ended up in dog houses way behind our house, then moved them into a fenced area, then finally into our home. Jack actually had a couple of police departments looking at him for drug sniffing due to his personalty traits/drive (we found him a nice family instead), and Honey went to a nice family who had a couple of other GSD's.
Still remember finding this guy below as a pup. Middle pic was training him on commands for eating (food, not people LOL) and the bottom one was of his new owners sending us a picture of him graduating from dog training class LOL They renamed from my "peanut" (which he looked like at the time) to Sarge, after their one boy serving in Afgahnistan at the time.
After about 10 years of working with dogs, we ended up to start fostering children, which slowly took our time away from the animals to the point where we had to stop.
We're kind of like Frankenkubota. We always swear we are never taking another permanent pet in again, but it seems the future has other plans. We were actually down to 3 after it seemed like a bunch died of old age or other medical issues. The small black dog in the pic with my dad my wife found as a puppy on the side of the road with our one son in the car with her (I still remember the phone call from my wife when I was with our other boy), and the blue tick hound ended up being found by my father and son were hitting golf balls out back when my dad was down visiting. After my FIL died this past January, my MIL can't handle the dogs herself, so we we're kind of up in the air on finding them homes. Those two were a litter of 13 born in our garage, and we actually adopted those two out to my inlaws about 10 years ago. Thing is, those two dogs were litterally like my FIL's babies for all those years, and I told my wife I think her father would have prefered they stay with us instead of rehoming them. So, we went from 3 from about 5 years ago to 6 now.

The yellow lab my wife owned when I met her. The beagle mix I found as a pup at a gas station on a hot August day covered in ticks. The aussie mix we "found" together at our vets as someone came in claiming to find her and couldn't keep her. Turns out the girl lied, just kept the dog chained outside 24/7 and couldn't stand her barking. Imagine that with that kind of breed personality.
Those three dogs actually helped us train a lot of dogs over a decade that came through our home.
I can still get misty thinking about each drive to the vet for their last visit. All 3 are in our garden with a host of other ashes.
