Brownie - my 16 month old Cocker Spaniel - saw his first turkeys a month ago. Off he goes across the meadow. The turkeys mull around in their small group but basically, stand their ground. Soon, Brownie is standing next to me - just watching the turkeys. A lesson learned.

This is Buddy. We lost him in 2008 to a baseball sized tumor, between his kidneys.

He's with our Grand Daughter Madison who's graduating from HS this year. If Maddie was at the ranch .. Buddy never left her side .. and even slept in her room.

Oh yeah, he’s been climbing for a couple of years so knows his way down. The neighbor says he sometimes falls down through the branches which slows his rate of decent.

It's no fun, if you aren't watching so that you can yell at him. My last dog had a different twist though; she always loved to roll the right side of her neck into something smelly. Then she'd come up and rub against my right leg so that I'd reach down to pet her. I think that she loved hearing me say as I looked at my messy hand.

Brownie - and I - had a rough night last night. The neighbor always shoots off a lot of big fireworks. Brownie must have thought the world was coming to an end. Finally - both went to sleep. In the big easy chair - him asleep in my lap. It's a dogs life.............

Our Boston Dottie has a melt down over fireworks. I’ve spent the night in the basement with her many times under a blanket.

This year we’re in an area where she can’t hear them. She and I got a good nights sleep until the thunder storm rolled through this morning. She hates thunder as well.
