I see a life long friendship in the making. Is it my imagination, or does Izzy need a hug? :)

My camera's not the best but the thread's been inactive too long. There's got to be some dogs out there just waiting to be discovered. ;)

Had to give my "Old Guy", Chief his final trip the vet yesterday, at 14 years old, his eyesight & hearing were gone, his hind legs were giving out so it was time. Farm 2018 005.JPG Didn't make it any easier though.

We still have "Baby Girl", Dottie to keep us company: Farm 2018 008.JPG

As I have posted before, I have 3 lovely little dogs BUT, lately this little bloke has been living in trees beside our house. He as been here for a few weeks now. He doesn't seem to worry about our dogs running around.

This is my mutt Roxy. Some ******** threw the babies out at 4 weeks because some neighbor dog got ahold of his, I never met them but got the pup from a lady who rescued the puppies. Don't really know what she is, was told heeler/lab but she looks rottie/shephard ??? But one thing I can say for sure is She is absolutely retarded !!! she is 8 months old now.

That's a good indication that there's some Lab in her... they don't grow a brain for two years. ;)

Not sure about that, I had a full blooded lab before and the dog was super smart...nothing like this one.

I've had two, including the one laying next to me right now.
They are both highly intelligent and super numb... but until they get up around 2 years old they are mostly numb. :)

Cool... maybe she will grow a brain soon, She is an odd one as she was born with a stub for a tail which is now about 10" long with a knot on the end. It was never docked and Vet says it was a birth defect as well, no sign of trauma at all, wonder if that knot is her brain?

If that is a brain it gets an awful rattle every time she wags her tail. I'm showing a lot of restraint by not commenting on what I think of the original owner of your pup...
It would get me a "TBN Timeout".

Oh I understand completely.... I had to censor my comment too ! From what I heard the guy had a full blooded pup and some mutt knocked it up, so after the pups were born he was just going to throw them in the can, apparently the lady I got her from was told this by a friend and she went and got the pups and nursed them with a bottle until she found homes for them. Roxy was the only one with these markings which was odd from the litter of 6.... Just made a call today to get her fixed, waiting on a call back for date and time.

Camping at the Mercer/Grove City Pa. KOA. Angel is hanging with me (never in pictures, I take them!), my father (in the pictures) and my nephew.20190829_220020.jpg20190829_192606.jpg

Some heelers have some black and tan in them (comes from the Kelpie in their ancestry), and the head and body type looks right.

I'm not saying I haven't met a heeler that is a few bricks short, but the one we had was fiercely independent and stubborn as the day is long, which looks a lot like stupid if you are used to retrievers who just want to make you happy.

If we'd give him a job (herd the other dog, fetch the ball for all hours, chase the bunnies and squirrels out of the yard, etc.) he'd be happy as anything. It's not that they don't learn, it's more that they want a justification that makes sense to them about why whatever needs to be done, and then given a little free rein in how it gets done. And there's enough of a jerk in them that "chase that other critter" is a pretty good reason.

Remember, these are heel dogs, they were bred to bite the heels of stubborn cows until they'd move, out-stubborn them in the process, and do whatever it takes to get them where they need to go...not like a border collie who will eye down a sheep or a goat until it decides it is psychologically overmatched and goes the other way. Completely different thought process in how the dog is used and how the dog approaches the work.

Though if you do teach her fetch, use TWO balls, if you use just one she will hold onto it until she catches her breath and you'll not be able to do anything else all day. With two balls in motion, you have a chance of getting her exhausted for a spell.
