I just thought I'd post an unfortunate update. The female dog (Nora) passed yesterday. She got the disease which sometimes occurs in purebred dogs where the immune system attacks the red blood cells. She was at the vet for a week and then everyone thought maybe she would survive cause the vet said the third day is normally what determines that. She came home and was improving over about a week but when her medication was reduced it relapsed and.....
We had a little funeral this morning and buried her in a corner of the yard. We need to come up with a marker for the grave. She was mostly my mom's dog so it is hardest on her but she was loved by everyone. About one and a quarter years old. It is amazing how attached you can get to a dog.

Take care,

sorry for your pup. sure is amazing how much we fall in love with them. My golden retriever dog had a similar immune system episode that a specialist Vet cured. His immune system started attacking his trigeminal sp? nerve she said. He couldn't eat or drink like his muzzle was numb. His tongue seemed to be swollen too. I can't remember all that was done but he ended up on a steroid regiment that we slowly weaned him back over a few months. They determined the dosage based on his white blood cell count or something like that. Good thing the prednisone sp? was cheap.

Does sound quite similar. Our vet said sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. With our dog she was almost gone before we got her to the vet. We didn't know what was wrong cause she wouldn't eat and then it was the weekend so by Monday she was very sick. They did blood transfusion, IVs, fed her with a tube( I think) ... The vet said they get about 4 cases a year per vet at the clinic, so kinda rare. He said about the same time there was another dog they lost with the same problem.

Just one member of our zoo:
My wifes dog Chloe - she goes to work with us and spends her days lounging around the office. Shown with a bandaged up foot from crashing into a fence at top speed while chasing a bunny in the back yard....

When it gets cold, and I go in to the office from the shop, she makes herself cozy in my chair:

We had to put down both our dogs this past year. They were both 13, but it's always hard parting with those furry little buggers.

So we adopted Wally from the local Humane Society. He's a Basset / Lab mix and looks a lot like a low-rider lab with Basset ears and feet. He's got a great disposition without a lot of the hound stubbornness (one of our previous dogs was the world's most stubborn Beagle).

Wally gets along with the sheep and the cat and doesn't chase the chickens so he's easy to have around. Although he does have a sock fetish. He keeps stealing our socks and hides them. Gotta love those dogs.

A pic of my heeler, phoenix and the fiance's german lab mix, colt. The massive lab is a big baby but looks intimidating which keeps visitors who don't know him in their car, and phoenix just wants to get in their vehicle and go for a ride. She wants to ride, car, truck, golf cart, tractor, she goes everywhere with me.

Here's my furbuddies after the hunt with the last Snowshoe Hare for the season....

The picture reminds me of Chevy Chase tying the dog to the bumper and driving away. When I want to tie Betty to the car or truck, I close the drivers door on the leash and snap the other end to her collar. Pretty hard to drive away and forget the dog, at least I hope so. I am my own worst enemy.:confused2:
