Thanks for the recommendation. I've never had to deal with a skunk, but we have them here and it's just a matter of time until it happens.
We've been here going on 17 years, only the 2nd time a skunk has posed an issue with our dogs.
What I find kind of funny is a skunk, from what I've read, makes a great house pet. Thing is, what makes them so "evil" is the protective measures that either nature or God gave them to help them escape possible danger (no different than what nature had instructed Oscar what to do and why we as men, consider those animals a pest).
Can't explain it, but it's a dog's nature to chase, and a skunks nature to spray
What's ironic is we've found per our experiences with dogs, don't put water on them at all for at least 48 hours).
Separate and treat the dogs affected first for at least 24 hours and don't wash them (checking the dogs outside of the house LOL).
I looked online, and for people, it states to shower to get rid of a skunk smell) From our own experience, I guess the difference between people and dogs is dogs generally are much more hairier (per their fur) than people, and the dogs hair can absorb the skunk spray. Washing a dog with water only spreads the skunk oil (sprayed on the dog by the skunk) on the dogs hair more, and can actually increase the "smell" per surface area on the dog.
If you believe in tomato juice, give them (dogs) a "tomato juice" bath first with no water and do everything outside to "air out" the skunk smell (I only mention tomato juice as that's what I've always been told LOL).
When I opened the door at 0515 yesterday morning and the dogs when out the door, I should have figured something was wrong with the way the lead dog out the door and seemed to chase something in "prey mode", but I didn't even have my first cup of coffee and didn't have time to process what I was seeing LOL
