Dodge and Cummins No More????

both are diesel's, i was referring to gas engines. sorry i didnt specify that. i just don't want the drivetrain of a Prius in a truck i use for work on my farm.

The system is a good idea, but if they want to get anywhere with it they will need to put a diesel in it. If a stock Jetta TDI can get ~50mpg think of what a TDI hybrid could do, or a smaller diesel engine with a hybrid drivetrain...

I would buy a hybrid that was "normal" sized, had a diesel engine and used capacitors (rather than batteries) to store energy, but the technology is not there yet on the capacitor side and nobody makes a diesel/electric hybrid for cars so I will wait and drive my Volvo 940 wagon.

If it doesn't pass, I would think the equipment causing it not to pass must be removed or modified until it does. I feel bad for all the guys chopping DPFs off their new $50,000 trucks or removing the CATs off their older trucks, then not being able to meet new emissions standards.

Not sure about over-the road trucks, but I know a lot of guys are dumping older diesel off road equipment b/c it won't meet emmissions. I picked up a great buy on a NH backhoe from a seller who said it would no longer meet CA emmissions. Don't know if it's true or not.

In my state, there's no diesel emmissions tests....for now.

True on Diesel Powered Equipment... the reg I saw specifically targeted Diesels of 50 hp or more...

Even the Tree Chipper guys are having trouble and I know a few that are retiring instead of re-powering.

Fleet Owners, such as Utility Companies are dumping older Back Hoes and other Diesel Powered Equipment because they all need to be registered... this is for off road stuff...

Lots of the smaller guys are choosing to give up... business is way down and they can't justify or afford to invest in new equipment and give the old stuff away.

The Port of Oakland will not allow Tractor Trailer Rigs to enter port property unless the rig is powered by engines meeting the stricter new standard... so much for taking care of older equipment... it still ends up on the scrap heap...

I've got the same problem with my Cummins Turbo Diesel Gen-set... 1995 model with 240 hours on the clock... already have been notified of likelihood of forced retirement.

So is the EPA or the State offering up any compen$ation for those who are facing equipment that will need an upgrade?? That is total hogwash if you ask me. It is not your fault that these new regs do not have a grandfather clause for existing equipment.

CA is a fantastic place to buy used diesel equipment right now.

I found a tandem 6x6 dumptruck that I'd love to buy, but I can't. The price is fantastic. The state has to shed all it's diesel powered equipment that won't meet pollution regs. Problem is I can't sell my 4800 4x4 because nobody that makes a living with equipment is buying equipment.

Even with $2,500 in shipping added to the price, my LB115 backhoe was a far better buy in CA than right here near me in PA.

That's so screwed up. It's all because of this global warming crap, too.

Actually, most of it comes from C.A.R.B. (California Air Resource Board) and the intent is to reduce particulate exhaust.

I believe in technological evolution when combined with provisions that Grandfather properly maintained equipment.

The problem I have is that business has no choice... equipment not meeting the new standards will not be permitted to operate commercially... so this effects just about everyone in business... even an owner operator with a pristine Backhoe with low hours that just happens to be using older technology.

I already had to register my Cummins Diesel Gen-set... even though it was installed with a permit and no registration requirements at the time.

Lots of deals to be had right now on older heavy duty Diesel Equipment in CA...

Cummins told me that it is a problem for those located in air districts subject to the new regs...

The Farm Lobby is still strong in this State... even-though many have lost 90% of their water allocations due to below normal rain effecting the Delta Smelt...

As I understand, Farmers still have some leeway in retire AG equipment...

Don't know if Dodge with a Cummins or another Diesel Power Plant will be as viable once they are subject to mandatory emmision checks and added emmision equipment.

Are they looking to drive people into major debt, or run them either out of business, or out of the state?? That sounds so crazy. What about the farmers, and all the small guys, if they cannot afford to upgrade, they are in trouble. So sad in these economic times.

How clean is the diesel in California? That is the first place I would look. From what I was told, the cleanest diesel on the planet is Swiss, so maybe providing cleaner fuel, as well as more options for people would be a better choice.

JMHO.

It is good for folks out of state who want an equipment upgrade at a good price.
