I've had my tractor now for a few years and there are some areas that need to be touched up. Do you touch up paint your tractor or implements? What steps do you use and what kind of paint?

Thanks!

Yes, and always JD paint.

Yes, I have been using the "new Kubota II" on my Kioti.. Small dings, I spray a little in the cap, and take a Q tip and dip it in the pool of paint, and carefully lay it in the ding or scratch.. Works well if you use care.

Thank you. For implements where some metal is exposed and a bit of rust, would you sand lightly and then paint?

Yes I would, and it the blemish was big enough, I would spray it with the can. Make sure the nozzle is working good (no sputtering) paint is well mixed (shake well) and distance at least a foot away from surface. Spray "lightly" while moving the can to lay down just a fine mist. Remember less is "more".. you can always lay several light coats, and it will look better than a heavy coat. Practice on some scrap if you don't have your technique down yet. I learned what little I know about painting with "rattle cans" from a boss I worked for about 40 years ago. He was an expert with a rattle can. We painted a lot of radio control heads (Motorola's mostly). and he could make them look like brand new.

I take them to the local sandblaster ... He's so reasonable .. Then I mix my paint 5:1 and spray them!!

Sand, Prime, then paint. For my implements I use rustoleum primer and paint with a HF spray gun. Tractor is still new. no dings or scrapes yet but I will touch them up when they happen.

I will touch up paint on the frame or a tiny scratch like others mentioned with a Q tip. I try not to do any major damage to need body work.

The tractor get JD green, the implements get Rustoleam...except for the RFM. That's a Frontier brand so I use JD Green on that too.

No painting on my JD2030, it's 40 years old and any painting would make it look like the whole thing needs painting.
I did do some touch up on the JD6415. The trucker wrapped chains on the front axle. I still have chain impressions in the paint. I used JD spray paint. I also repainted the PTO guard, straightened it first then painted. It looked like the top link had been dropped on it many times. The wheels need some touch up, but I figure they would be hard to make look good without painting the complete wheel. So the scratches remain.
