Just wondering if people strictly use only John Deere grease and oil on their garden tractors?

My dealership is a 45 minute drive, one way, so either I stock up on oil, or I buy other stuff from my work. I am partial to the Amsoil synthetic grease we use at work, and was thinking I would use that on my X740. As far as oil goes, I am going to stick with the JD break-in oil for 100 hours, but after that, I was thinking of using something else besides John Deere oil.

Does anyone know who makes the JD oil and grease anyways? I'm sure it's just another brand that has a JD label on it.

I buy red grease by the carton, usually Valvoline Crimson and Delo 400 engine oil 15w40. The filters, transmission oil and antifreeze are Deere. Batteries are agm Odyssey when I can find one that fits.

Pretty sure their POL products are Chevron. And it's my understanding that - whereas many mineral oil greases are not compatible with each other - synthetics are universally compatible. I have an X500 and a 3720, and use aftermarket consumables on both. That said, they must be labeled to meet or exceed the pertinent JD spec

i use all jd stuff...it just makes it easy what to use for what and compaired to the cost of a tractor and since im doing it myself it's not that much money in the grand scope of things

I use JD for the hydrostatic drive. For everything else, as long as it meets or exceeds the JD spec I will use other products than JD that I have faith in.
