I think it's funny that owners of very expensive cars are making them even more expensive by paying for
seriously expensive matte or satin paint jobs, while everyone else is slathering on the chrome.
But chrome is old school. Now we are into crystals, and certainly LED "jewelry" is popping up everywhere.
It's like a woman driving at you from the other direction and her diamond sparkler sparkles by.

btw, I wear no jewelry, my LT2500 Suburban does not have one piece of chrome on it, and I avoid it. I don't think my VW Golf has any chrome
either. Maybe I just don't have the ego
needs to get noticed. And today, who wants to get carjacked?...

but it's always fun to see what the car industry will come up with next. GM decided we didn't need a radio volume any more, and I will never buy another car of theirs or anyone's without it. The Cadillac Cue system was a nightmare, glad to get rid of that otherwise excellent car. At least their new trucks have a few knobs.

I always wondered when I would see someone with that aftermarket rocker panel chrome straight up to the door guards.
and even though they know better, builders are still putting shiny things inside the car that can get you in the eyes at certain times.
Function is expected I guess, form is what sells...and old fashioned owner loyalty. I bet that is going down with so many good choices out there.

Soon we will have dimmers on our dash for both outside fashion lights and inside...
and maybe your wife can dial in a preferred color to match her dress...
not so far fetched. You can change your dash color on many cars now. Just a matter of time...
perhaps it will be a designer John Varvatos edition. Which makes as much sense as the older version
with our much beloved Corinthian leather.

Now I think the ultimate class act would be to put a shiny new Kubota steering wheel necker knob on that new S. :dance1:

I think the ONLY place that Escalade might look at home would be in the PROJECTS!

I would be embarrased to drive something like that!

Car dealers have looked at me funny when I asked to get rid of the fancier option wheels or ask if that model is available without chrome.

I don't think you'll find an 84K Escalade in the projects.... Unless your the Dope Man.

I'd love an s-class, but just can't justify that kind of money for a car. I'm really looking forward to seeing the new flagship Cadillac (although I heard the they may be up in the s-class price range. Hard to believe that.) Wonder if I can convince myself I need to trade in the XTS4.

Call me a sucker for car bling...

With the way my equipment spends time in the mud and dirt, you couldn't see bling on it, if it had it! No sense in buying something that isn't going to "work" a bit. Crazy to have something like that, just to buy groceries! But then, I'm not into the frills and fluff. It's what it has under the hood that counts! :D

Wellfare pays real good up here! Specially if you gots lots of kids!

My friends Boss has one of those. I just shake my head everytime I see it. Once the whole thing got stolen, and the new one, well they just stole those gawdy wheels. I figured they were just doing him a favour actually!

now I saw that pic and guessed right, I think the only tractor mfg that has ever offered chromed ROPS.
I mean, why not, not like you are going to be giving your ROPS hard use, and if you are, well you really have bigger challenges...:D

I chuckle when I go into car dealerships because they get a little leery when I ask for something not too shiny. But that's what everyone wants!
I tell them to relax, I'm not a black bumper Mennonite. That's a little further West of here. Now there's the exact opposite, flat black paint on all shiny surfaces.
I fully understand the symbolism but I could live with a little chrome. It's just when it's slathered on...
I think some of us who can afford expensive new cars choose not to do so so as not to flaunt money or phoney worth. Also, like FarmGirl says, you set other
priorities in your life at different stages. It's too bad, I love to drive and would love to own a MB diesel. Maybe at half price when five years old and well depreciated but barely broken in. Instead, I'll spend it on a truck, which I see as a tool. And gosh we sure have all justified the cost of a nice tool haven't we?...

For the last sixteen years I have been "GM family", but no longer, so when I shop for a "new" diesel dually this Fall, I'm looking at all the brands. Maybe find one with a body colored painted grill. And if it had a Gale Banks blower on it, that would be really terrible wouldn't it? Yup, it sure is what's under the hood. ;)
