I will be buying a used DK45S in a week or so and have started trying to find a used trailer for it. I had really planned on trying to go ahead find something a little bigger than a 10k trailer. I will be pulling the rig with an older, medium duty dump truck. In looking at the larger rated trailers, it looks like they make a pretty hefty jump in construction at that size which is going to be pushing me as far as the GVWR, plus, I have seen a lot more 10K trailers for sale closer to me. In estimating the weight from reading on here and the Kioti site, this looks like what I will be face with:
Tractor: 4300lbs
Tires already filled: @ 1100lbs
Loader@ 1000lbs
Eventual attachments: Bush Hog @ 700lbs(just looked up BushHog 720 weight)

Totals roughly 7500lbs.
It looks like some estimates I've seen on 20-22 foot 10K trailers is around 3000lbs so this puts me right on the weight(it seems most trailers list 10,500 capacity). Since this is right at the top of capacity and there will usually be a few miscellaneous items, can I figure in that the weight the vehicle will be carrying on the tongue will relieve some of the weight on the trailer or is this just trying to cut it too close. Obviously, I don't think it's there's going to be an exact cut off at the rating, but would it be a lot better to wait it out and find a larger trailer.

Some of those 14k trailers look really heavy themselves. Do many of you guys haul your DK45's with 10K trailers?

Wingbone, I use a Bigtex trailer rated at 10,000 lbs to haul my DK50c with loader & backhoe. I pull it with an E-350 4x4 van. I've never had a problem I weighed the trailer at work an it was around 1,600 lbs. If I had pictures I would post. Good luck. Frenchie.

I think a 10K for a DK50 with loader and backhoe is stretching it. I'm currently looking for a trailer for my DK45s and decided a 12K is the minimum. It's definitely noticeable when comparing the construction of a 10K and 12K.

Typically a 10K weighs 2000# with a payload of 8000# and a 12K 2500# with a payload of 9500#. I've run the numbers over and over again and a 10K won't cut it for me.

Tractor = 4400#
Ballast = 1000#
Loader = 1000#
Backhoe w/sub frame mount (Woods BH90-X) = 1850#

Total = 8250#

Then how many of us really just want to haul just the tractor. I know I'll want to pack my box blade (800#), disk (800#) and pallet forks (400#) occasionally. I've decided on a 14K registered as a 12K for not having or need a CDL. I'll be towing with a 2007 Dodge 1 ton dump. The 12K registration will keep me under the total 26K requiring a CDL.

I had originally decided on at least a 12k or even a 14k but I really want to buy a used trailer and the 12's aren't real common. Most of the 14k trailers look a lot beefier and take a big jump in weight. It seems like you would only be getting a little more payload capacity but be adding a lot more for your vehicle to tow. I have seen a few trailers like a PJ that still 'look' more like a medium duty but have dual 7k axles. That's the kind I would really like to find.

You can't dodge A CDL with downrated registration IIRC

Been pulling my dk45s with a 10,000 trailer with no problems now for three years. I usually have the loader and one implement on the three point. Trailer weighs 1400 lbs.

Before I bought my gooseneck trailer I pulled around my DK45s on an 18', 12,000 GVWR trailer. It did a great job with the weight but was really too short with FEL and a 7' bush hog attached. 25' gooseneck solved that problem.

I own an 18' PJ trailer rated for 10,400#. It uses a pair of standard 5200# dexter axles and is built of stout 6" channel. I love the trailer and use it for my 4500# CK30 as pictured since a 7000# rated trailer would have been near the max with my tractor.

I have actually weighed the empty trailer at real scales and it weighs 2500#s. For an 8000# cargo capacity.

I like having an extra margin of safety when setting up this kind of gear and I have been happy with my choice of going a step bigger than needed.

Could you unfill the tires? These Kiotis are awfully heavy as is.

Manufacturers will tag the GVRW upon request to 12k on a 14K constructed trailer. BTW, I ain't hauling my tractor with a trailer only weighing 1400#!

Ya there is a big difference between having tha actual GVWR downrated then just registering it for less weight

Yeah, it struck me that 1400 lbs was light, even for a 10K trailer. My 10K, 20' trailer states that it weighs 2745 empty. And, I don't think mine is especially heavy duty or anything. Even empty, you know it's back there. Towing my 1600 lb popup, you couldn't tell it was there. So, I'd say the 2745 lbs is closer to reality than 1400.

I shopped and shopped and shopped til I finally bought a new one from NE Tennessee for $2300. It was by far the best deal I could find. Even used, they weren't much less and most were beat all to death.

And the brand?

Noticed my post count, ain't no way I'm sitting on that number ............. please allow me some room mods.

AFA 1400#, it must have been hooked to a truck off the scales. I have a 7 x 12 single axle that weights 1200#.

It is a heavy duty trailer...I was wondering about the weight comments so I went out and looked... It weighs 2500 lbs! Don't know where I got the 1400 number from. My mistake now will you haul your tractor on it? lol :D

How do you guys load yr tractors with backhoes? Do you pull them on forward or backwards? Also what kind of straps or binders should a guy use? Chains and binders or ratchet straps ok?

I just ordered a Econo-Trailer 12K 20ft. I am now thinking I should have him sticker it for 10k???? Cuz I dont hv a CDL or medical card.

Thanks

Depending on what your towing with I see no need to down size the GVRW. For me hauling with a 1 ton dump with a GVRW of 12,500, I'm going to get a 14k tagged as a 12K. The "authorities" look at the total combined towing vehicle weight GVRW and trailer GVRW. If your over 26,000 you need CDL.

I would only do chains with a tractor my size (8K).

I'll tell you how I load when I get my trailer ........ :)

I have a Chevy Dmax crew cab 2500HD 9200 GVW. I was think about staying under the 10,000lb trailer GVW for DOT reasons.

What reasons?

You would have to pull it with a F450 or the like before you would have to worry about CDL.

IMO downrating it may be a mistake. You may need the capacity in the future.
