My DK40 with hydrostat trans has just under 500 hours and has been good to me. It just developed an issue and before I start to tear into things I would like some educated opinions as to what exactly has happened.

I do not recall being rough on the trans and always am at a full stop before shifting from L-M_H. I have never heard my gears grinding. Having said that:

Prior to yesterday when shifting from one range to another there has always been a slight resistance in the shift lever, something that I imagine is normal. Not great resistance rather just a bit to let you know you are shifting. Well yesterday I went to shift and the lever just sort of free wheels, almost as if there is a broken pin or something of that nature in the linkage. The shift lever just has NO resistance at all.

When I move it through the range from H-N-M-N-L the gear indicator lights on the dash do in fact show that I am moving the shift lever but no resistance when shifting.

I am not sure if I am in M or L but clearly I am not changing gear range.

Funny thing is that the neutral safety seems to work and even though there is no resistance when I move the lever to get a neutral light on the dash I can start right up however once running when I shift back to neutral the Kioti does not go into neutral neutral but rather remains in gear. And once I turn it off I must see the N on the dash to start.

I see the shift "linkage" runs under the seat area and I see the visible parts are moving but clearly something has broken or just become disconnected.

Yes I can use the Kioti as it stands but prefer to fix the issue.

Sorry for the long winded post just trying to be as clear as possible.

Any thoughts before I attempt to tear into my Kiuoti.

Appreciate any and all opinions/suggestions/education

The reason the lights still work is because the sensor is connected directly to the lever and not to the shift fork inside the transmission.

My guess is that both roll pins #2 and #5 shear or just slipped out of its place. This would the best scenario since it's an easy and cheap fix. Worst case scenario, it broke something inside the transmission, which requires a lot more work.

Well that was quick. Hopefully the first scenario.

I'll get under there tomorrow. Just looking for info before I muck around. Pretty new to this. So new that I just learned last week that there are no spark plugs in a diesel engine.
